3 Tips to Make the Most of Your Time on LinkedIn

As 2021 closes and 2022 begins, this is a good time to reflect on the amount of time we spend on social media. The digital era continues to advance. It is hard to escape technology, especially social media. In general, sixty seconds may not seem like a long time. But this graphic from Statista provides an interesting overview of what happens on the internet in just one minute.

According to recent research, people spend approximately 2.5 hours a day on social media. Outside of someone who has a job that requires them to be on social media for large blocks of time, it is important to be very judicious with our daily online time. Even though LinkedIn is the #1 platform for professional and business purposes, it is still important to have the time spent wisely.

Here's three tips to make sure your time on LinkedIn is time well spent:

  1. Schedule blocks of time! If being on LinkedIn is a time drainer for you, set blocks of time that are specifically your LinkedIn time. This means not having a tab with your LinkedIn profile open all day or constantly check the app. Instead, establish blocks of time that you will open your profile. Perhaps for 20 minutes in the morning, afternoon and evening. Or perhaps 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes midday. Perhaps it's just every other day. You determine your schedule based on the LinkedIn goals you want to accomplish. Ambitious goals will require more consistent blocks of time. Less ambitious goals require less time. Set an alarm or put the blocks of time in your calendar so you stay within the timeframe.
  2. Be strategic! Even with having blocks of dedicated time on LinkedIn, it can be wasted time if your actions are not purposeful. Don't just randomly scroll. Strategically a) respond to messages, notifications, etc. b) Send connections invites c) Engage with content and d) Make posts.
  3. Plan out activity! Set aside time once a week, maybe over the weekend, to plan your weekly activity. Planning out LinkedIn activity in advance allows us to put more thought into the process instead of having random activity. The forecasting allows us to be more productive. This time can even include the drafting of posts, the creation of graphics, etc.

Hopefully these tips help you make the most out of your time on LinkedIn in 2022. You can Shine Online more when you make each minute on the platform count.
