3 tips to improve your luck and your life??

Welcome to Quick Confidence! This weekly letter delivers a spritz of stories, tips and simple actions that will build your confidence and your power. Each quick tip bolsters confidence in your body, mind, and relationships so you can lead yourself and others to greatness.?

I think most of us can think of someone who has amazing luck – it’s like no matter what they do or where they go, good fortune just seems to fall in their lap!?

How irritating, right?! :/ Especially if you feel like you’re stuck in a spiral of bad luck.

Some people might tell you that it’s as simple as thinking positively, but you and I both know that it can be really tough to do that when it feels like you’ve an awful streak.

While I won’t tell you that you’ll get everything you want simply by being upbeat about it, I will tell you that you can control how you feel about what you’re handed in life.

I will also tell you that you can feel (and BE) just as lucky as that person you envy so much!

We are presented with hundreds of opportunities every day. Opportunities to meet people, go places, learn things or just sit at home hoping life will change.

Well, I’m willing to bet that the “luckiest” person in your life is a doer, not a hope-er. And that’s why great things happen to them – they take advantage of life’s opportunities!

So, today’s Quick Confidence tips are about how you can stop feeling unlucky.

Quick Confidence Tips to Stop Feeling Unlucky:

  1. Embodied: Expect luck to follow you (but don’t forget to zig-zag). Tennessee Williams famously wrote in A Streetcar Named Desire that, “luck is believing you’re lucky.” Your own self belief that good luck just has a way of finding you can create a self-fulfilling cycle. And as you might have guessed, feeling lucky can lead you to work harder and plan better. Here’s the thing though – don’t forget to change up your routines – this can create new experiences. Check out a new coffee shop, take a different route to work, or go to a different grocery store. These small changes can alter the way you view your life and, by extension, your luck! As you get comfortable with the little changes, start making bigger ones – that’ll widen your net of opportunities and connections
  2. Interpersonal: Be a giver. In Dorie Clark’s book, Stand Out, she shares that lucky people are willing to approach others *without* expecting anything in return. Coming from a place of generosity with your network – rather than focusing on “what’s in it for me?” can create tons of goodwill, and well, luck! A willingness to send people valuable resources, to react compassionately to their circumstances, and to make needed introductions and connections – can go a long way. So give to your network and watch good luck shine upon YOU.
  3. Mindset: Grab opportunities before the window closes. There is a beautiful concept from ancient Greece that I refer to often. It’s called kairos (or καιρ??) and it means 'the right, critical, or opportune moment'. In the space of one little breath, you can make a pivot or a move that changes everything. Lucky people are prone to grab those moments and find the opportunity in them. To act!? Let’s say you have one shot with an influential executive at your company. You’re going to an event where they’ll be, and you want to share your big new idea with them. This is the time to act (not overthink)! So remember, an important piece of “luck” is a willingness to take bold action – to grab hold of the moment - in a timely way.?

Yes, this is it: 'an important piece of “luck” is a willingness to take bold action – to grab hold of the moment - in a timely way'. And by trying to avoid repeating mistakes, we may miss big opportunities unintentionally. Nonetheless, bad luck is a thing we should learn to embrace because having negative feelings about it could cost some of us everything. Thanks for sharing, Selena! #selfawareness #mindset
