This weekend calls in the beginning of July and then you will be on the final straight to the summer holidays.
This can cause one of two reactions:
“Thank goodness! I’m so close to the end I can taste that celebratory G&T!”
Or:
“There’s still so much to do! Argh!”
Whichever camp you fall into - and whenever you get to start thinking about the summer holidays - make sure that you are summer ready (no, I’m not talking about beach body ready here!) by taking these 3 steps.
1) Make a list
What teacher doesn’t like making a list?
What teacher doesn’t like making a list that gets them ready for summer??
Now we’re talking!
So, set aside some time this week to create a brain dump of everything on your mind. Don’t panic, this is not a to-do list! It’s just an opportunity to get your brain feeling clear.
Once you have your list, create three separate columns and put tasks under the following categories:
Now you have a bit of clarity, pop these into your schedule and get going on them!

2) Be willing to strike things off the list
There will be things that you have been rewriting on your to-do list every week since Christmas. These might be ideals you wanted to make time for but never got around to or requests from others that eventually fell by the wayside.
Ask yourself the following questions:
If the answer is minimal, be brave. Strike it off your list.
3) Get excited for summer!
If you haven’t already, begin making plans for your summer holidays. What would you like to do? Where would you like to go? Who would you like to spend time with? Begin to visualise what it will be like to take time away from school and all the positive things that you will be able to experience.
Unable to wait for the holidays to begin? Get on holiday now!
Make time each day to visualise what it will be like to be off school and on holiday. Imagine where you will be, what you’ll be able to see, what you’ll hear, smell, touch and taste. Lose yourself in the moment of holiday that awaits.
This activity will help you to rest and recuperate in the here and now. Our brains struggle to differentiate reality from imagination. By visualising your summer as vividly as possible, your brain will believe it to be real, creating the corresponding experience that you can have on holiday such as feelings of relaxation and destressing.
