Every business needs leads. Go ahead and try to think of a business out there that can get by without them.
It's impossible.
So what’s the best way to make sure that you're consistently getting quality leads?
Building a lead generation website and driving targeted traffic to it.
Sounds simple enough…. right?
So what’s this all about.
A lead generation website simply captures your visitors' information so that you can sell to them online or offline. This is also known as an optin page or landing page.
You’ll do this through some type of online form.
Let’s just say that your a roofing company looking to get more leads. You’ll have an online form for your visitor to request a free roof inspection.
But this same method works if you’re selling a product online.
You’ll offer a free product/report/information so that you can capture their email address and begin sending your future promotions to them.
Simple and effective.
Here are some samples of what these online forms look like,
It’s so simple, but yet not everyone is doing it. Why?
Well because people think that it’s way too complicated to set up.
So I’m about to show you exactly how you can easily start building your lead generation website right now for free and begin getting quality leads coming in shortly after.
There are three important aspects to the success of any lead generation website - the offer, the landing page copy, and the traffic source.
Let's dive into each aspect of this so you can get started today,
#1 Create An Irresistible Offer
Just because you're giving something away for free doesn’t mean the visitor is going to jump on the opportunity. Their email address is valuable to them and the more information you're trying to get from them the harder it is to get it.
So what you’re offering better be something they feel is worth way more than the possibility of getting a slew of unwanted emails.
How do you do this?
Understanding who your customer is and what they want helps you to figure out the best offer.
In the same way that I got you to give me your email.
I understand how you feel, what you’re looking for, and why you need this ebook.
It also helped that I was once lost and searching for ways to build a business and get leads to build my email list.
Once you understand what your target market needs you can fill this need.
Some of the best ways to learn these things are by joining Facebook Groups, message boards, and forums. If you’re already in business you probably already know this.
You’ll quickly learn everything you need to learn about them, including who they follow on Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, what podcasts they listen to, and their favorite websites.
Take your time with this.
And what’s great about this is that it’s going to help you in every area of building your business from selling more products and services, to driving targeted traffic to your website.
We’ll go over this later on in the Traffic section.
Giving away information is one of the best methods, it’s known as a “Lead Magnet”.
You’re giving away useful and valuable information within your market.
Let’s say you’re a roofing company and you want to make more sales selling solar panels, roof repairs, or roof replacement. You can create a report or a video talking about these things.
Here are some ideas,

Don’t worry, you don’t have to create these products on your own. But keep in mind you are the expert.
There are already created products that you can use and give away for free. These are known as private label rights or PLR products.
These are already written products that you can use for yourself. Just be sure that you are choosing one that gives you permission to give away for free.
Notice this one cannot be given away for free.
Now the quality of these products range from bad to good and can cost anywhere between $2 and $47.
Another option is to have a ghostwriter create your own product, much like this one.
It doesn’t have to be fancy, but you want to offer value and you want it to be geared towards your potential visitors.
Plus creating your own gives you the ability to add your own links and brand your name. Don’t get hung up on creating your own if it’s going to stress you out.
Remember the goal is to get started; it's not about perfection.
Tip:
Join some Facebook Groups and ask people to review your lead magnet in exchange for some reviews to be used on your lead generation page. Notice I didn’t say ask for good reviews.
You want real feedback and genuine reviews.
#2 Creating Your Landing Page Copy
The BIGGEST mistake people make is getting hung up on the design.
You want it to look amazing and to be perfect… that’s understandable.
But this is the exact thing that is keeping you from moving forward.
Simple designs convert. Don’t overthink it.
You just need to get something up.
I’m going to give you a simple design to get started with so that you can get up and running today with just a few simple changes.
But in that same breath, there are some very important things that you’ll need to be aware of when it comes to your landing page.
Everything on your landing page is important from the words you choose to the color of the buttons in order to convert them into a lead.
Let’s look at what HubSpot said about the impact the words you use on a button can have,
You want to make sure that you’re using a clear and catchy call to action so that they want to download your eBooks, checklists, guides or video tutorials.
Tips:
Get them motivated to give you their email address.
One of the best ways to do this is to keep the message short and sweet at all times.
You don’t have long to capture their attention.
Answer this question, what will they get from the offer - why will their life be better.
#3 Follow Up Or Lose Out On Sales Forever
You’re losing potential customers if you aren’t doing this.
The goal of a lead generation is to get their information so that you have the ability to follow up with them. This is how you make money.
And there are many different ways that you can do this.
Here are two methods of following up,
- Following up by email
- With a phone call
The first two methods will determine what your lead capture form went after. In the case of the roofing company offering a free roof estimate, you’ll most likely give them a call to schedule an appointment.
For most lead generation websites, you’ll want to follow up with email and automate the entire process so it’s working for you 24/7.
This can be achieved with services such as ActiveCampaign, Aweber, GetResponse or MailChimp.
There are free plans that can get you started, but many of them offer limited services with their free plan.
The goal is to have your email messages automatically begin when they hit the submit button on your website.
You’ll automatically send out follow up emails a day, two or maybe three days after the lead signed up with offers that they’ll be interested in. Be sure you are staying on topic with the initial offer.
Sending them weight loss products when they signed up to learn more about building a business isn’t going to get you sales and isn’t going to give you credibility.
Stay on topic. Don’t stop giving them value just because you already have their information and don’t try to sell them with every email you send to them.
Some of the PLR products come with email follow-up messages that you’ll want to tweak to match your offers, or once again you can hire a copywriter (ghostwriter) to handle this for you.
Driving Targeted Traffic To Your Lead Generation Website
We’ve been taught that it’s a numbers game. The more people that come to your website the better chance you’ll have of making sales.
Here’s the problem with that reasoning, your product/service isn’t for everyone.
Why do you want someone who doesn’t own a home filling out the form for a free roof analysis.
Or someone who doesn’t have or even like dogs visiting your lead generation website.
You don’t. It’s a waste of your time and if you’re paying for ad’s it’s a BIG waste of your money.
You’ve already determined who your target audience is earlier. So now you must go and find them and put your ads in front of them
Here are some of the best ways to start driving targeted traffic to your website,
There are tons of methods - Google, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit and this list goes on and on.
If you plan on waiting to get listed organically in the search engines this will certainly prove to be a waste of time.
So what do you do,
Firstly, you always want to design your website with the search engines in mind. Using keywords and content to get listed in the search engines.
You’ll notice on the template I’m giving you that below the lead capture is a ton of information that you’ll want to include pertaining to your niche. Answer their common questions. This information is for the search engines.
Paying for Ads on Facebook & Google
When you’re running ads on these platforms, you’re going to target the people and websites that you know your niche is following. In a sense, you are piggybacking off of them.
So for example, if you’re selling dog products, you’d want to piggyback off of Cesar Milan, right.
As a local business, you’re going to target your local service area. There’s no sense in spending hundreds of dollars targeting areas that you’ll don’t live nearby.
So for example a Google or Facebook ad for a local roofing company. You’ll want to be very specific with who you're targeting.
- Your local city with a radius of 40 miles (or choose specific cities)
- Homeowners
- Making $XX a year
Instagram Influencers
This is probably one of my favorite methods.
You’ve done your research and know who your potential customers are following. You can reach out to these influencers and place an ad on their account.
You’ll find that most of them have their price in their bio.
Email Solo Ads are ads placed in other people's emails within your niche.
You can easily find these advertising opportunities by searching on Google. Use search terms such as, ‘[your niche] email advertising’ or ‘[your niche] online media kit’.
The best advice for driving targeted traffic to your lead generation website is to start with one method at a time. Master it and then move on, but always be sure you are targeting your people.
The people that you know are interested in your product or service.
Tip:
Start with one method and master it before moving on to the next. If you want to start with Facebook advertising then learn it before moving on to another.
Trying to learn multiple things at once is a recipe for failure.
