3 Tips to finding your purpose.

“What is my purpose?” This is a question that I’m sure everyone has asked themselves at least once. It baffles me that some people think that they have no purpose which can’t be further from the truth because if you are still alive than you have purpose. I am very thankful and grateful to be on this journey of fulfilling my purpose and I want to take this time to share some tips that helped me to find my purpose and that will hopefully help you.

Pray

Yup, it’s that simple. What better way of finding out your purpose than praying to the One who created you; if anyone knows He does. But don’t just pray any prayer. Ask God to reveal His will for your life. Ask Him to bring your talents and gifts to the light so that you may notice them. Remember He created you for His own reasons and purposes so you can’t ask Him for things that YOU want; you have to find out what HE wants from you. Trust me teaching and wanting to inspire and help people was nothing of what I thought I would be doing with my life. Actually, I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do and that’s probably why I constantly changed my majors at school and never felt completely happy at any of my jobs. It was not until I opened up to His will and let Him guide and show me the way. It feels good to finally have a clear direction as to where my life is headed. What I will say is that He won’t make you do anything you’re not already gifted to do so trust and believe that what He shows you will still be something that you will thoroughly enjoy.

Talk to you Friends and Family

Your friends and family members can sometimes see things in you that you can’t. I asked my closest friends and family members questions about myself. I asked them to describe my personality and what type of career setting do they think would best fit me. Their feedback helped me a lot by giving me a better understanding of myself; the good and the bad. It’s a great idea to get input from people who are on the outside looking in instead of just relying on what you think you know about yourself; you never know how others perceive you. But also, be sure to only ask those whom you trust and have a genuine interest in your well-being.

Do a Self-Examination

What type of things interest you? What is something that you can see yourself doing day in and day out? What makes you happy? What makes you angry? What is something that just seems to set your soul on fire whenever you talk about it? What do you find yourself naturally doing? These are great starter questions to ask yourself when trying to discover your purpose. Sometimes we take our natural gifts for granted because it is normal to us but may be amazing to someone else. For instance, you could be an awesome cook and it may be ordinary to you because cooking may be something you do on a regular basis, you don’t tend to think much of it. But you may get questions from other people all the time wondering why you don’t go into culinary arts because you have a gift in cooking.

Also, I would recommend watching Bishop T.D. Jakes sermons Getting to the Core. He does an excellent job explaining how to reach deep within yourself and not just paying attention to what’s on the surface and what people have labeled you. These are just a few suggestions that have helped me along the way. If you have any other suggestions that have helped you feel free to leave a comment so that you can help someone else.
