3 Thoughts To Jolt You Back To Better Marketing

3 Thoughts To Jolt You Back To Better Marketing

I honestly didn't want to write this week. Let's just say I was pissed -- at the general state of the industry I am in, the usual flash and bang that we humans tend to be attracted to "like moths to light", and the terrible state of affairs the world is in.

But let's not drift....

I am dumbfounded about this: despite all the information out there, ignorance is common.

Ignorance, however, is going to cost you a pretty penny.

Taking action -- no matter how small or insignificant it might seem -- pushes you further towards your goals. To get there, you'd have to do things right while rejecting fancy theories, distractions, and pulling your mind to stay the path.

Everything you read above (and below), has to be in sync (not in isolation); it's all orchestrated.

You don't just "flute" or "drum" your way to success. Here's what I mean:

Orchestration Is Critical

Love music? It's never just about one instrument or a single artist to produce the music you love. Unimaginable amount of work goes in just to get that melody out.

Movies and your favourite shows have complete crew -- including the cast, writers, producers, background music scores, VFX, editing, post-production, cinematography, and more?

Individual and group sports: These are highly-orchestrated events as well.

Wealth building: It's never about just "real estate" or "Equity" -- true wealth is usually a mix of proportionately invested assets across asset classes -- all the way down to your savings/current account.

You can't just strip digital marketing down to just SEO or Twitter Threads or LinkedIn Posts or LinkedIn live streams. These are content types in various formats. Flute? New Flute? Guitar? New Guitar?

For your business or brand to grow, you need digital marketing orchestration -- well-defined, consistent, and value-packed content across the board.

Don't Put All Eggs In a Single Basket

Did you know that the average shelf-life of a social post/update/link is just around 3.5 hours, according to research by HubSpot and Bit.ly?

Think about that for a moment. Everything you post on your social networks won't last more than a day (maybe just 2-3 days, if you get some engagement).

You'd have to start all over again tomorrow. Then, the day after. You can (and you'll) and there's nothing wrong with that. The point is that you'd need to build a way to ensure that your brand/business is "discoverable" without you having to step on this hamster wheel.

That's why you should consider blogging. On top of all the benefits of blogging, you also get a built-in distribution system (thanks to Google). You'll be found, discovered, and then some.

If you haven't started blogging, change that now. If you already do blogging, take it more seriously.

Focus on publishing velocity (publish 1,3,5 times per week).

You can't just say, "I do SEO" or "We do PPC" and get away with it. Just doesn't work that way.

Use Analytics & It's Easy Enough

There's Google Analytics; there's Databox; there's SuperMetrics; there's MixPanel -- there are tons of analytics tools out there that you could use.

There's also the UTM tracking that you should use. Then, there's attribution and proper tracking.

That's it.

Analytics give you data; stories about your growth that you could use to make informed-decisions (and not just what your brain tells you) or what your gut tells you.

Analytics is close to mathematics in a way: you can't have opinions about numbers -- a 2 is a 2 is a 2. 2=@ = 4.

There's no scope for feelings here, see?

What pisses me off more than anything else is why clients, in-house teams, freelancers, agencies, my mother, cousin, and granny seem to have differing opinions on How digital marketing should be like?

Don't listen to your cousin if you value your business. Period.
