3 thoughts for 2nd Half of 2023

It seems I am sending more emails than usual.

Trust me, I am even surprised myself.

It is the beginning of a new half of the year and I wanted to say a few things as we head into this segment.

Time

The concept of time is a very powerful tool. And if you understand it, you can save yourself from boiling pots of soup.

Think of time as an amplifier. It only loudens what is already present.

Think of time as a restrictor. It only restricts what has already run it’s course.

When you have traits that are put in motion for you to excel, all that remains is for time to catch up.

Objectively speaking, we tend to see it in others than in ourselves.

We intuitively know that Ann would succeed and all that remain is time.

Equally, we know that except Sean changes course, he is currently headed for a wrong path.

So I would advise you, Position yourself in luck for time. Time amplifies but it is up to you to do the foundational work for time to amplify the good things.

Things like good habits, healthy relationships, dedicated work ethic, being results and detailed oriented help you in the long run.

Knowing what you would not do gives you clue as to what you can do

A brief story about me.

I can’t cook. I can’t wash. I am not good in sewing. I can’t make hair. I can’t dance. I literally fail in almost everything the traditional woman is expected to be good in. Infact, I am not really a big fan of children though they like me a lot.

I understood this early on that I would get bored in the traditional woman way of life.

But I have one saving grace- I enjoy the corporate world. I like working. I like talking. I like writing. I like reading.

And this formed the basis of what I do, ‘being a lawyer’

And like I shared this in an earlier newsletter, the key to understanding what you can do is knowing what you would not do.

Once you have a good understanding of what you cannot do, you find that the things you can do comes easier to you.

In other words, to know who you are, know who you are not. To know what you can do, know what you can’t do.

Horizontal and Vertical Relationships?

If you are young, I would advise you to build relationships with both your peers and your seniors.

Don’t make the mistake of only choosing seniors as friends. You would be surprised at how quickly they forget you.

Don’t make the mistake of choosing only peers for your relationships. You would not fly high.

To achieve a properly balanced network, have a mix of seniors, peers and juniors.

You would be surprised at how well resourced your network would be.

And it is a wrap! I had a nice time writing my thoughts once again. Hopefully, I send more emails, hopefully I don’t.
