3 Things You Never Realized That Slow Your Unemployment Job Search

There are probably things in your unemployment job search that keep it slow.

These are strategies that nearly everyone use, but when you also use them, you look like everyone else you're competing with.

And you also appear to be a greater risk to hiring managers, who don't know if you're im career transition because you were an average or under-performer. Because when hiring manager's have as many choices as they do in 2024's competitive job market, they'll choose the candidate with the lowest risk and highest performance.

Here are 3 things you don't realize that slow your unemployment job search:

  1. Giving The First Impression That You're Qualified: Employers expect 5-10 qualified candidates competing for each interview spot (or 50-100 qualified candidates competing for 10 spots ... plus all the unqualified candidates. To overcome employer risk that you're an average/under performer, you need to make a much stronger first impression than just being qualified.
  2. You Use Underperforming Employer Intelligence: Most job seekers use publicly available information (job descriptions, company websites, Google) to customize resumes and prepare for interviews. Public knowledge doesn't represent the individual hiring manager's current needs and doesn't give you any advantage over your competitors who all access to the same information.
  3. You Don't Know What A Hiring Manager Is Looking For: What an individual hiring manager needs is rarely in the job description or company website ... and since you don't know you guess. You almost always will guess incorrectly, causing you to fail to advance in the hiring process, or fail to get offers.

The good news is these are all within your power to change, because all unemployed job seekers can make these changes in their search.

What if you knew what to change, so your job search would progress more quickly? Think of how much faster and less frustrating your search would be. Think of how you'd get your career back on track, prevent burn-through of your savings.
