3 things world level fighters do that you can copy to become elite in your field

For those of you that know me well, you'll already know I've spent years coaching elite level fighters. From amateurs all the way up to world champions and gold medalists.
Fighting is a sport that is well respected by all, even if you have no knowledge of the sport, you can appreciate the dedication, commitment and, well insanity, that someone would choose a career where they can lose their life.
Spending time with these guys really levelled me up. My business improved and so did I. Without realising, I was implementing things that my clients displayed.
Success leaves clues.
I now teach these lessons to my clients and the results have been amazing.
I believe anyone who follows these principles will be successful and reach the top 1% of their field.
It's the mix of these that's key. The elite fighters have a long term plan and work towards it. They are willing to give up any success in the short term for their end goal.
Alongside this, they have short term focus.
What that means is, they don't sit there every day thinking about becoming a world champion. Instead they are focused on today. How do they be a world champion today?
They focus on that and over time, acting like a champion changes their behaviours and habits.
That's something you can think about. What do you want long term and how do you become the person that has that thing today? You might decide that person is someone who doesn't skip any training sessions, finishes work at a reasonable hour to spend time with family and starts their day with a walk - whatever it is, be them from now.
2. Find a way, not an excuse.
Throughout a fighters career, there are many setbacks - fights being postponed, injuries, opponents not accepting fights, even a year of not getting paid and still paying out for training (covid).
The best of the best still move froward.
They could give up, throw in the towel, feel sorry for themselves but they don't.
They give themselves permission to be down for a day and then they move on and look for solutions, knowing that's in their best interests.
You will also have things happen in life and business - how will you react?

Maybe a client pulls out, a pitch doesn't go well, you can't get funding.
Do you let this define you?
3. The outcome is just the outcome.
The outcome is irrelevant. It took me a while to grasp this. A fighter loses and it is bad right? Everything was wasted.
But the world level fighters reframe this beautifully.
The outcome is just the outcome, it's not in your control.
Maybe you had an off night, maybe your opponent was great, maybe the judges scored it unfairly, you can't control it.
But that doesn't mean the work was wasted.
Win, lose, draw, it doesn't matter. If you prepared well and did they right things, it was successful.
You can only control what you do NOT the outcome. Detach from it.
A world class fighter knows this. They know they could have terrible prep, skip what they need to do and still win a fight. They would rather do the right things and lose because in the long run, you'll get more wins and more important wins. When it really matters, it adds up.
In business, this is the same.
You can't control whether an investor commits to you. You can't control if a client leaves.
You can control what you do on a daily basis, the quality of work, how you show up and what service you deliver.
The outcome is just the outcome.
Fighters can teach us a lot and although it seems worlds apart from what you do, there are so many similarities.
