1. When it comes to spending for in-flight upgrades, Americans prefer to spend for extra legroom or a higher seating class.

With spring only a few months away, consumers are eager to shake off the winter chill and plan their next getaway. Flying is sure to be a popular method of travel, but as they map out their flight plans, where are Americans most willing to spend to upgrade their level of comfort?

For consumers in lower- or middle-income households (less than $100K), the most popular in-flight upgrade is increased legroom or comfort seating; respondents in higher-income households (more than $100K), meanwhile, are more willing to spend the money to upgrade their seating class to business or first class.

Costco workers are planning a strike on February 1st, citing demands for better wages and working conditions. Over the past six months, support for labor unions has fluctuated between 43% and 68%. CivicScience tracking, as seen below, demonstrates the impact that recent major strikes have had on this level of support.?

Additional CivicScience data show 53% of Americans support retail workers overall in striking for better pay and conditions, including over one-third of Republicans and nearly three-quarters of Democrats. 3. Close to half of Americans say they support businesses requiring purchases to use amenities like Wi-Fi.

Starbucks recently announced it will now require purchases for access to seating, Wi-Fi, and restrooms, reversing its open-door policy. CivicScience data reveal this change could impact the 1-in-4 U.S. adults who visit public spaces like coffee shops or libraries weekly.?

Nevertheless, just under half of U.S. adults say they are in favor of businesses requiring purchases to use amenities. Both remote and in-person employees are equally likely to support businesses implementing “closed-door” policies, although they are slightly less popular among respondents not currently employed.
