3 things I’ve learnt from my short time working in bid writing
Winning Tenders
Award-winning bid and tender writing and bid management for ambitious businesses. We win over 90% of our Framework bids.
Throughout my years of working as a content writer, mainly in education, I had only briefly come across the concept of bid writing. After joining the team at Winning Tenders, I was very keen to learn more about bid writing but had no idea how much I’d learn about the overall bid process and what it can do for businesses. Here are just a few things I’ve learnt since starting this year.
In the world of writing, I came across other writers who mainly worked on bids. From my discussions with them, I naturally assumed that bidding for projects was an exclusive luxury set aside for huge companies that had the money and manpower.
However, I quickly discovered that this couldn’t be further from the truth. Winning Tenders work mostly with SMEs and help these businesses make their mark in a number of different industries, as they apply for projects they may have thought were previously out of reach.
Working with SMEs, we are able to get to know their team and their goals much more intimately which means we can produce content that accurately reflects their assets when tendering.
2. Winning just one bid can yield incredible results
Many SMEs rely on sourcing their work through a number of more “traditional” means, such as relevant advertising campaigns and referrals from other clients. While these can be incredibly effective, bidding for and winning a project that involves years of contracted work can be a great source of guaranteed income for a business.
I was surprised then, to find out that so few SMEs tender for projects that they would be the right fit for. Much of this comes down to capacity, as dedicating an individual or team to applying for these projects can feel like a waste of time and resources. However, in my short time working in this field, I truly believe that it’s due to businesses thinking it’s more difficult than it really is.

3. It’s a lot simpler than you might think
One of the most important takeaways from my first few months helping other businesses tender for projects suited to them is how complicated the process can seem at first.
With different businesses or councils using a variety of portals and all requesting varying types of information or responses from those companies looking to tender, it can feel a bit like a minefield for business owners. Coupling this with the fact that they need to set aside time to complete these responses and meet the relevant deadlines, it’s all too easy for them to just step away from the process.?
I’ve seen how working with Winning Tenders has made this process so much smoother for a variety of businesses that are completely new to this. Having a bid writer on your side to help with collating relevant documents, clarifying what is required and putting together the responses can make a huge difference in a business’ capacity to tender and, by doing so, drastically increasing your chances of success.
These early days of working in this industry have been fascinating. Not only from aspects such as learning about the inner workers of certain government bodies and businesses but also how smaller businesses can compete with much larger ones in their ability to take on these projects.?
I’ve noticed just how important a win is to these businesses as well as the teams like us that helped them get there.
