· A room full of 15 strangers sitting around a long marble table, with first name only name tents, and strict rules to not disclose what they do for business until the end of the night.
·Two passionate entrepreneurs ready to share their story and hungry to get feedback, constructive criticism and fresh ideas from those 14 strangers.
This is about my night at House of Genius AZ.
From the first handshake, I could feel the genuine energy and desire from those there volunteering their time to contribute to others success. A new arrival in the Phoenix business world, what an honor it was to be the keynote presenter to this unfamiliar group.
As leaders of complex human beings, I shared with the group a behavioral model from my book which emphasizes the importance of understanding others and giving them what they need. These are techniques that don’t rely on assessments, but focus on reading the situation to navigate the interaction with the purpose of giving people what they need so everyone can move forward quickly and confidently.
Followed up by two impassioned entrepreneurs, they impressed me with their vision to solve a problem that rests on their hearts. Both entrepreneurs were genuine and gracious in listening to the laser of ideas from the other 14 strangers in the room.
I walked away energized and determined to continue my mission, as well as 3 key thoughts and new learnings:
#1 THE “PLUS ONE”: A much cooler and concise way to say, “I agree with Phillip” or “ditto to what Caitlin said.”
#2 – “THE ASK”: A trendy way to isolate your big question or ask for help.
# 3 – Am-AZ-ing people in AZ! From the second I received communication about House of Genius, it was crisp and succinct and focused on helping people move forward with their businesses. The ideas shared around the long marble table about building lasting platforms, finding technical expertise, and defining differentiators showed these strangers were knowledgeable and proven in their fields.
The bottom line is this; there are amAZing people in the valley who are ready to share success strategies to lift other businesses, all you must do is ASK!
