Another year is almost gone, and the question is: have you effectively used LinkedIn to improve your business? Before you go into a funk because you feel you haven’t accomplished enough, I have a quick win for you.
Here are three quick things to do on LinkedIn before 2019:
1. Review and update your profile
Your LinkedIn profile is the business card of the platform. It's important to be sure it's up to date and all the information is accurate. Did you change jobs in 2018? Start a new project, or complete one? Read your profile from your customer's or potential employer's perspective and make sure it represents you correctly.
2. Review your first level connections
Before social media, we would collect business cards and keep them in a drawer. Not always referring to them if we weren't doing business with someone that week/month/year.
Your connections are similar. They accumulate, and unless you stay in touch with them, the connection can become inconsequential.
Take time to review your connections and see if it would be advantageous to reach out to them. The week between Christmas and New Years is an excellent time to do this, as many are working, but on a less hectic schedule.
This, by the way, should be done on a regular basis if you have numerous first level connections.
3. Review your group memberships
Just like chambers of commerce, LinkedIn groups are only as good as what you put into them - and the benefits you receive.
Look at the groups you belong to on LinkedIn. Are you active on a regular basis? Are clients and potential clients in these groups? Take time to make sure you're in the right groups - and that you're contributing to them, as well.
2019 is fast approaching. Now is the time to up your game on LinkedIn!
