How to Impress Employers during an Interview

Before you head to a job interview, there are several things you should be prepared for. Below are three ways to impress your interviewer.
#1 - Know about the company.
It’s important to show up to an interview with more than a general knowledge of what the company is and what they do, especially if it is an organization with multiple divisions or sections. Do your homework before the interview and research the company via a Web search, their website, and their social media channels. Tailor your interview to ways you can help their specific needs.
#2 - Know about the person interviewing you.
If you’ve been given the name of the person you are interviewing with in advance, make sure you know who they are and their role in the company. Check to see if they have a bio online or visit their LinkedIn page. Consider asking questions related to how they’ve liked working at the company, why they would encourage others to work there, and what growth they’ve experienced in their skills by being a part of the team at the end of the interview or when given the opportunity.
#3 - Ask insightful questions.
From your research, find insightful questions to ask during the interview. Be sure to create a list of questions in advance. At the end of the interview, interviewers usually give you time to inquire about the position. Make sure to have a good question or two to close with.
The Soldier for Life – Transition Assistance Program (SFL-TAP) teaches interview preparation during a Soldier’s transition from active duty.
