3 Steps to Grow an Unwavering Mindset so You Can Achieve Your BIGGEST Goal!

3 Steps to Grow an Unwavering Mindset so You Can Achieve Your BIGGEST Goal!

...in only 90 days or less!

My sincere intention for you is to use this post as a spark to consider a new perspective in going after what you really want whether it's personal or professional.

Some Context…

I just got laid-off from Rivian along with hundreds of other people!

First of all, I want to let everyone impacted by this mass lay-off know they can reach out to me free of charge if they need any help with career advice or even brainstorming bigger picture questions, like...

“I want to do something else with my life, what should it be?”...

I got your back!?

Btw, Career advice is not a service I provide as part of my business. This is more of a genuine willingness to help you out.

So Now What?…

Instead of applying to other jobs, I decided to go after something much bigger...aka what Jim Collins calls a BHAG!

New Goal: I intend to earn 10X my previous salary as an entrepreneur working less hours! ??

Now this definitely sounds pretty crazy every time I read it (trust me, I’m not in denial about it), and that’s OK.

Why would I think this is OK? because I know I don’t have the unwavering mindset and the neural connections in my physical brain to believe in that possibility 100%, YET! Keyword here is “YET”.

Here’s the good news! I’m going to challenge myself over the next 90 days to build that unwavering mindset!

...and to make things even more interesting, I’m going to treat this as my top priority project and share my progress with you along the way. Worst case scenario, I completely fail and you get to benefit from how I communicate project progress since I’ve done it for the past 15 years or so! ??

To be super clear, the goal is to upgrade my mindset in 90 days.

I’m not suggesting I will be earning 10X my previous salary at the end of those 90 days. Although, I would not be against that idea at all.

The Next 90 Days!

To keep this post from becoming 5 miles long, I’m going to avoid getting into the why behind my approach and timeline, but I promise to create content in the future that goes deep into the psychology of it, which happens to be one of my learning passions. Here’s how I plan to do it (in summary):

  • Step 1: Consume and Observe with Obsession

Find 3-5 people that are already living this reality and consume their content, actions, decisions, behavior, thought process and beliefs on a daily basis as much as possible.

This will naturally enforce a new belief system for you.

So far I have identified 3 people. I’m looking to find 2 more! Please comment if you’re thinking of someone I should consider.

  • Step 2: Experience It First Hand Repeatedly?

Decide on 3 new daily habits (or skills) all of your “role models” have already mastered.?

These habits directly contribute to the results they are able to achieve, which is what you want to emulate. Notice that I’m using habits and skills interchangeably. That’s how I personally think of them.

For my goal and project, the 3 habits I want to build are:

  • High quality content creation on LinkedIn
  • Marketing unparalleled offers and?
  • Signing amazing growth-minded CEOs as clients

For you, it can be 3 completely different habits (skills). It just has to tie back directly to your goal.

Once you decide on those 3 habits, determine how much time you’re willing to invest every week into practicing them.

For example, is it 1hr for each habit, 5 days a week? Is it 2hrs a day for the 1st habit and 3hrs a week for the 2nd and 3rd habits?

I would not stress too much about this. You’re just starting out. I highly recommend you revisit this time investment aspect 30 days in and 60 days in. I plan to do that.

Now it’s action time! Begin wherever you are to practice these habits. Preferably at least once a day at the same time. There’s a gazillion books on building habits. Use them for tips.

This post right here is literally me practicing “content creation”. I’m giving it my best shot and it’s not perfect. Who cares? ??

  • Step 3: Introspect Your Thoughts & Actions NOT Results!

As human beings we are so blessed to be intrinsically wired with a survival mechanism, which tells us what’s working and what’s not working when we observe our reality.

How? We simply look at our results. However, I believe this is a double-edged sword.?

If you’re just starting a new habit and you decide to compare your results to the role models you are emulating, it can immediately shut you down and cripple your passion to even pursue your goal.

It’s extremely important to constantly remind yourself:

“I control my thoughts and actions, results will come later”

during those first 90 days and potentially even longer.

Remember, you're still conditioning your mind and brain. You’re not expected to have amazing results yet. You’re expected to build new habits, which lead to the unwavering mindset required to achieve those results. Without the right mindset, you have no chance! period.

For clarity, I am strictly referring to “introspection” here in the context of how you can improve your performance week in and week out. In the world of agile or SCRUM there’s a simple retrospective process that looks at 3 questions:

  • What worked well?...continue doing
  • What didn’t work well?...stop doing
  • What would work better?...start doing

Once a week (ideally a weekend day is best if you’re not working), ask yourself these 3 questions and write down your answers in a journal. Then implement those changes immediately. There are 12 weeks within 90 days. That means you’ll get 12 instances to step back and improve your thoughts and actions for the same 3 habits. How good do you think you’ll be by then? I think you’ll be pretty damn good to be honest.

In Summary…

As a human being, you are meant to constantly grow!?

If you settle for a mediocre life, without putting any energy into your dreams (even if it means as simply as fantasizing or daydreaming), you’re essentially choking the life out of your existence. You will physically exist and you will survive, but that’s not why we are on this Earth.

Fear is the only thing between you and starting this journey. Fear is just a belief system we have unconsciously accepted and wired into our brain over many years!

Guess what, we just talked about how to rewire that fear into an unwavering mindset…aka FAITH!

P.S. Are you inspired to start a 90-Day project with me?
