How can I make a great resume/CV?
- Make it short & readable
- Incorporate tangibles- goals met, money saved, cost cuttings implemented, time saved -Numbers & percentages are key to highlight your accomplishments
- Ensure it is ATS friendly
- Tailor your CV to the job description
- Use the words in the job description in your CV
- Google the Harvard Perfect resume for an easy-to-read template to use
- Be bold & be genuine
- Connect, connect, connect—often, it is who you know in the company or a recruiter who works with the company who can help you get your foot in the door.
- Build your connections and keep in touch with them. Sometimes, former colleagues can help introduce you to their new company. Build relationships with people. Be genuine and open and try to help each other.
- If you are interested in a role, contact the recruiter posting the job directly?and?make an impression by being friendly, but not overly pushy.
- Apply, apply, apply!
- Don’t self-select out of the process. Apply even if you have 7/10 of the qualities. You may not be the right fit for this job, but you will still get on their radar for other opportunities.
- More often than men, women?think they must have all the qualifications. This is false. Usually, a job description is a wish list. Employers want everything on the list but understand they may have to compromise. Take a chance & tailor your CV, and apply. The worst that can happen is they don’t call, and you apply for the next one until you get the right one.
- However, don’t serially apply, so you cannot remember what you applied for. Choose the jobs that are the right fit and target your applications
- And please, on behalf of all recruiters everywhere, read the job description before sending it. There are few things more annoying than receiving an application that is not even remotely a fit for the job advertised
