Many companies are scared to tackle online marketing due the rapid rate of growth that social media has. With new announcements happening all of the time like Facebook did with their ‘stories’ yesterday, many businesses are scared to address their online marketing and put their lack of it down to budgets. But a businesses budget is not the main factor that determines how successful an online marketing campaign is, the strategy is.
Identify your customers: Targeting the right people for the content that is being posted is essential. Many businesses are scared to narrow down their target audience and worry that they will be too specific, but this isn't a bad thing. Generating a customer profile to determine the ideal customer is important as their interests and dislikes play an important role in the type of content being posted. A customer profile then determines the price of the product or service as no amount of marketing will sell something that is out of the audiences price range.
Smart Marketing: Once the customer has been identified, the marketing strategy needs to be ‘smart’. If the target audience is 40+ males looking to buy lawnmowers, snapchat would be a completely irrelevant platform to promote the product on. This is not only because very few of this generation would be on snapchat, but also the customer would be more focused on the performance of the product rather than the aesthetics, which snapchat primarily focuses on. Going through all social platforms and looking at where the target market ‘hang out’ and then creating content to fit around the platform is the best way to market.
Engagement: Getting the audience to then engage with the posts is essential. Engagement can be anything from them liking a post to commenting or sharing and this then helps to get the posts out to a larger network of likeminded people. Boosting posts on sites such as Facebook reaches a larger audience that would be interested in the brand and will therefore get more click throughs on the post. This may be to a special offer or the companies website page, all generating more revenue for the business.
These three steps are the foundations of an online marketing campaign and although there are many methods to improve online marketing, starting with these you can’t go wrong.
