3 STEPS TO CULTIVATING A HAPPIER WORKPLACE

When challenges arise in an organization or institution, the actual problem (not the symptom) has to be identified. Often, it is ignored, excuses are made, blame is displaced, and everyone acts like nothing is going on. Until it happens again. And again.?

As a wise therapist once told me, “avoidance is simply rescheduling conflict.”?

If you look at the problems and patterns, it allows insight as to the functionality (or dysfunction) of the operation. More often than not, the underlying issue goes back to organizational culture, or lack thereof.

Here are 3 simple steps to cultivate a happier workplace with decreased conflict, disengagement, and frustration.?

UNITY

In synchronized organizations, everyone subscribes to the standards and expectations set forth by the organization/ institution within the clear outlines of job descriptions, core values, vision, code of conduct, and short and long range goals.?

Leaders embrace the task of modeling appropriate behavior and techniques and use teachable moments as opportunities to improve alignment.?

FIND THE FACTS

A lot of conflicts are rooted in feelings over facts.

This could be due to perception, bias, personal values and beliefs, or ulterior motives; however, when you explore facts, it allows a clear-cut assessment of the situation and scenario.?

And, when you’re operating in unity, when you discover the facts of a conflict, you work together to improve and solve the situation.?

LEAD WITH LOVE

Empathetic leadership is a power move.?

See people, listen to their stories, and identify their strengths and contributions. Take time for them, and they’ll undoubtedly reciprocate by taking time for you.?

If you consistently embrace and apply these 3 steps, your workplace will be well on course to be happier, healthier, and more productive-giving everyone a reason to smile!?
