The 3-Step Process to Learn and Retain Vocabulary

The 3-Step Process to Learn and Retain Vocabulary

Today I want to share with you the three simple yet fundamental steps you need to take if you want to learn new vocabulary and then REMEMBER it!

One of the biggest issues people have with learning English is the capacity to actually retain new words and expressions they learn. This can lead to frustration and feelings of hopelessness!

It's not uncommon to hear things like these real quotes from coachess of mine -?"my memory is really bad" or "I think I'm too old to learn new things!"

Of course, in 99% of cases this is not really true! There are techniques you can use which will radically improve your capacity to learn and retain words and expressions.

Today I'll give you an outline of the 3-Step Process I use in my coaching programs and which have brough?great results. I'll go much deeper into this process today in my FREE Masterclass later today? The 3-step Process for Learning and Retaining Vocabulary - see end of newsletter for the sign up.?

In my coaching programs we follow a very simple yet highly effective 3-step approach to learning vocabulary.

Step 1.?Learn. Also called the?input?stage. These are the words and expressions which you proactively learn through study or consuming different learning resources. There are various important factors at this stage such as: being clear about what you need to learn, knowing your own learning style, choosing the right learning resources and more.?

Step 2. Practice.?Here it's important to choose the most effective practice techniques to help you get comfortable using the words and expressions you have learnt in Step 1. Some things which should be taken into account at this stage are: how will you be using these words in real life, your lifestyle and available practice time, consistency and more.

Step 3. Use.?This is the step that many people forget! The idea of learning new words and expressions is not only to be able to understand them (which is important), but also to actually use them! It's important to have a clear system to take the words from steps 1 & 2 and actually start incorporating them into your professional conversations.?

I highly recommend Chris Bate! It has been a great course today! I really enjoyed it! Thank you so much for your valuable tips!

Looks like a useful resource Chris Bate! Have you or your students ever delved into SRS flashcard apps? These can be really effective to "download" and retain large amounts of vocab.
