A 3 step approach to co-exist at work and still grow?

Some people grow in their careers by sheer quality of work produced - lets call this the first set.

And then there some other people who grow by ways other than just work - lets call this the second set.?This is a wide spectrum which includes politicking, backstabbing, pleasing and the list goes on.

When both these sets of people have to work together then there is a clear conflict of interest. This is the reason why the first set is unhappy and unfortunately that set has the largest number of people in any work set-up. In such a situation the second set is invariably happy because they only grow by eating on the work of the first set of people.

Now, the important question is, how does this first set of na?ve people who want to grow only by their ability to produce quality work, combat, co-exist with the second set and still grow??

Rookie's mistake is to think we can win by only producing more quality work. That approach works, but only if the system supports you, more often than not, that aint the case. Second approach would be inherit few characteristics of the second set, but it changes us as a person, so that approach will not work in the long run too. Third approach is to escalate matters, but then you will be branded as someone who is high maintenance and not having the ability to handle things.

So the solution is hybrid and it consists of three steps.

Step 1 - You have to keep producing quality work, if not step it up, remember, nothing beats good work in the long run, if not anything you become good at what you do eventually.?

Step 2 - You got to make them realize that you are not na?ve. You need not inherit their character but you should let them know that you understand what they are up to, you are not a victim but you can handle them.

Step 3 - Help them with their work and show them there is this way of growing with sheer prowess of work. They may not be appreciative but at least in their pursuit to exploit, they will know, what you know

The more you blend in these 3 steps and make it look natural only then you will master the art of handling the so called second set, be at peace and still grow in your career the way you know best - by sheers prowess of the unmatched quality of your work.
