3 Stealthy Signs that your Startup or Side-Hustle is affecting your Mental Health
Taking care of you is taking care of business! There is no better time to invest in a self-care routine or setting your priorities straight about your personal well-being. You cannot build the startup of your dreams if you’re mentally or physically depleted. Your health is so important to your success, I cannot underline how true this is. Would it be too insensitive to mention Steve Jobs so early in this article? Just look at him and what happened to him. If you don’t know please Google it!?
So, today I am sharing 3 stealthy signs that your Startup is affecting your mental health, and why you should act as soon as possible.
1 You talk about your Startup to the exclusion of everything else and get upset when people want to talk about something else!
Yes, you’re excited about your startup and you want to tell the world and that’s great! Here’s the sneaky thing, which is when you talk about nothing else, it means that you’re mentally wired about this all day and every day. You're not likely to be engaging in giving yourself mental breaks, or indeed engaging in activities, that promote a healthy work-life balance. You need to give yourself a break and stay grounded. Acknowledge that there’s more to your life than building this startup. You need to create clear boundaries between work, leisure, and your startup. By doing so you will allow yourself a mental break, which will enable you to build a better startup.?
2 Hustle v Health?
You are working unhealthy hours in your day job and with your startup. You are putting your health at risk from burnout, exhaustion, stress, and depression. You feel compelled to subscribe to the Hustle-Culture at the expense of your health. You’ve been sick more often this year than normal since you started working on your startup. You simply need to invest time in rest and not working!?
3 You find it hard to mentally detach and all your thoughts are about your startup
Of course you’ve got to think about how you’re going to build your startup, and the actions you’ll take. But when you can only think about the startup empire you're building and nothing else, then it’s time to ask yourself, is this really healthy? I am going to tell you that the answer is no! This means that you’re getting mentally obsessive about it, and you could potentially spiral into low moods, depression, or burnout if you don’t take action. Take action to give yourself mental rest from your Startup, so that you thrive when you’re working on it.?
