In the midst of the VIDOC crisis, no one is insensitive to the current state of our world. Although recovery is expected this May, we are aware that the world will no longer be the one it is today. We are currently living in a period of total disruption where old performance models are being shaken up, where fears about the virulence of the coronavirus are putting many people in a deep reflection on the future. In the face of these uncertainties, the greatest challenge after that of maintaining good health in the world of work. For many people, the concern is how to bounce back with new skills after this difficult period. Whether we work alone or in a team, the real challenge for us is to stay engaged and productive while maintaining positive energy and not giving up.
If our skills have been an important feature in the world of work in the past, today's expertise no longer revolves solely around key skills but around the essential skills that are the soft skills. And that's great news! Adaptability, soft skills, creativity - traditionally referred to as "soft" skills - have become the main drivers of success because they describe our ability to communicate and behave with others.
In these times of great challenge, more than ever the values of sport can inspire us to adopt the right psychological codes.
Deprived of their usual environment, top-level athletes must also face precarious training conditions and the uncertainty of the future of sports, which gives a great deal of importance to events. However, this constraint gives many the opportunity to take the time to adapt their preparation, to regenerate and share their passion and motivation with the public through social networks.
So I share with you 3 fundamental values that are essential to sporting performance as a model of inspiration to sail as well as possible and stay involved.
The active patient:
In the current context, knowing how to adapt and being open to changes in our professional environment is an essential prerequisite. Many people speak out in favor of staying active by doing the maximum possible during this period of confinement. However, although we want to do our best, the risk of this imposed rhythm can lead us to a situation of "overtraining" which could be to our disadvantage. In sport overtraining describes the symptoms of achieving more than we are currently able to do and can lead to a more or less serious injury that forces us to stop all activities temporarily.
In the world of work, business is about constantly achieving specific goals and net profits in a rapidly changing context, however, it is the non-technical skills "the soft-skills" that keep us engaged and balanced in our race.
As in the hurdles race, we need to be forgiving to ourselves by focusing on a minimum of important tasks to complete each day. Training consists of not asking too much of our body and mind while maintaining our goals strategically in the short, medium, and long term by following a program and progressing day by day.
Fighting spirit
When it comes to fighting spirit, Tennis is one of the sports where the notion of fighting spirit is characterized by not giving up anything until the last point because anything can happen.
The opponent is not the one opposite, he is within ourselves, the one who claims to set a limit.
We are all engaged in a fight where the virus is invisible but not invincible, combativeness allows us to keep in mind the intention to go all the way despite adversity. This situation may be hard to take but like the resilient boxer, we know that we have the ability to remain mobilized while keeping our focus on our projects and ambitions.
Resilience:
The world of work is like a race with repeated obstacles. In hurdling, I have learned that performance comes with years of rigorous preparation in order to make a race in less than 13 seconds. In a working life as in a race, there is a progression to be respected if we sprint with great intensity from the start, the following hurdles will be very difficult to cross because of the lactic acid that paralyzes our muscles. We finish the race out of breath! We are aware that obstacles are part of the process, that in order to reach our growth objectives we also have the right to make mistakes and to trust the process over the long term, hence the importance of maintaining a positive emotional state. Resilience allows us to stay the course over the long term and avoid spending too much energy too soon, which is simply not viable for ourselves or the members of our company.
The soft-skills of sport are an inspiring model for contributing to performance and well-being in companies.
Often when we talk about skills, we actually mean technical skills and core competencies. We can agree that certain well-targeted skills are essential because they are important in the process of developing our resources, but how do we explain that similar organizations employing people with similar professional skills end up with very different results? Soft-skills" are those complementary skills that help you to complete this work.As if we were a sports team, we can not only define success by focusing on our skills but on our intrinsic values, which are essential pillars for better management of our emotions and a commitment to all events. As part of the coaching on personal marketing and prospecting with the values of sport I develop these strategies and approaches with more details during online conferences every Thursday at 18H30.
