3 Simple ways to Raise your Baseline Performance

3 Simple ways to Raise your Baseline Performance

The other day I went for a run after being off from running for a month, due to some challenges with my knee lately. This started to happen when I wanted to play basketball with the 20-year Old’s which is something that my mind likes yet my body starts to disagree with… :)

On the way up the mountain during my second run after this break from running, I realized how fast I was getting back into my old baseline condition.

I know being away from running for a month is not such a long time, yet it allowed me to dive deeper into this idea of where our baseline in each different area of life is.

  • There is a baseline for physical health that allows us to stay functional and healthy.
  • There is a baseline for how much stress, discomfort, and tension each person can handle.
  • There is a baseline for financial security that is different for everyone.
  • Our Energy, our Focus, and Performance levels all have their own baselines too!

Now, you might ask why would it be important or interesting to know this baseline factor?

Well, to me all our actions and behavior stem from this space of baseline. We might fluctuate slightly from that depending on the day, and our mental and emotional state, but on most days we will always act from that baseline factor.

Now here is the punchline for you:

The people you see doing great and regularly achieving the life of their desires have nothing special over you! What I think they have managed to do is?to lift this baseline to a lot higher level where they are operating from!

Not the sexiest, the most attractive nor the most appealing of ideas, yet one of the most honest truths!

Doing the fundamentals, basics and those everyday actions to the highest possible standards will push that baseline higher and further!

When we manage to do that day in and day out, sooner than later we are so far ahead of the rest of the pack that they have a tough time catching us up anymore.

If there was one quote that left me in a deep reflection lately, it was this one from the famous thinker, Entrepreneur, and Venture capitalist Naval Ravikant.

?"Life is mostly about applying the basics"

Because, if we are to develop anything great or achieve the goals and milestones we are after, we must first build a foundation to spring from.

This also takes the now old conversation about Work-Life balance in a quite different direction, because I see balance as this almost unachievable dream that we constantly chase.

The 3 Ways

It doesn't have to be complicated yet we as humans like complexity and when something is too easy or simple, we often think that it is wrong.

Here are the three simple ways to raise our performance-based baseline.

Adaptation

We as humans are some of the most adaptable creatures on the planet.

To use this idea to increase our Performance Baseline we must make sure that we continuously push ourselves to those rugged edges and then let the adaptation and recovery do the rest of the work.

In High-Performance Lifestyle, the focus on optimized recovery is a fundamental part of growth!

Practice

“Practice makes progress“ ( Not perfect).

The simplest way to increase that baseline is obviously a consistent practice of your craft.

When we practice intentionally raising our baseline factor, the burden of everyday grind might take on another meaning for us.

One of the more principal factors of practice is the enjoyment of it. It absolutely needs to be enjoyable.

Off course, not all parts nor all days are glorious and full of sunshine and rainbows, yet we must be able to find the light within the simple act of daily practice.

Bring in Joy, Smile and it will be a breeze - on most days… ;)

Environment

Lastly, setting up your environment for success is hugely important. And with this, I mean our external AND internal environments.

What we read, listen to, and consume all shape our ability to Perform and stay on top of our own game!

Externally the people we spend time together with, the cleanliness of our desk in the morning, and how many distractions we allow into our daily lives all matter a lot more than we often think.

Personal environmental design is also a key idea that goes hand in hand with the previous two points of practice and adaptation.

In short

When we raise our standards, we raise our Performance and the baseline where we operate from. With a shift in your Energy and Focus, you have a lot more control and influence over your outcomes.

Do you want to make your everyday actions really pay dividends for you in the long-term or try to get to a place of balance where growth and performance often take the back seat?

One of the best byproducts of this whole idea of lifting our baseline factor is that?the higher this baseline is, the less you are influenced by the ongoing daily chores, duties, and emotional burdens of life.

I would highly suggest thinking again of your daily routines and how can you make them work for you to increase your standards by lifting the baseline where you operate from!
