3 Simple Steps to Build Trust with Your Customers
We all believe in people whom we trust. We can follow them blindly, anywhere. When people we trust ask us to jump, we don’t ask why. We ask how high? That’s how important a place these people take in our lives. We all need such people around us, and we all have a couple of them in our lives. Some of them are known as 3 am friends. Life is so much easier when we know we have such people around us, and we feel blessed.
It appears so easy to think about all this, but I am sure you all will agree that it’s not easy to build such relationships and partnerships. It doesn’t happen overnight and takes a lot to reach this level of trust. My personal experience suggests, three things that play an important role in building trust are as follows:
1. Long-term thinking / approach: It all begins with ‘long term’ thinking. We can’t build trust if we are thinking short term. Be it personal or professional set up; we need to think with a ‘no exit’ plan and from a long-term perspective.
2. Honesty: The second most important pillar of building trust is honesty. We appreciate people who are honest at the core, and we feel an instant connection with them. Transparency allows people to drop their guards, and that, in turn, attracts genuine relationships & partnerships.
3. Heart over mind: Honesty further enables the heart to take over the mind. When people around can see through us, they feel more comfortable in our company. Associations led by the heart have a longer life and have the power to heal small differences in case they crop up. It may lead to heartaches at times, but all goes and ends well if the intent is right.
So, long-term thinking, honest dealing, and putting heart over mind are the 3 step process of building trust. The question now is – can we apply these three things in sales to build trust with our customers because we all know that if a customer trusts us, he will do business with us. Building trust with your customer is not that difficult. All it takes is your ‘natural & genuine’ self to imbibe these core characters of trust in your day-to-day work. One doesn’t need any extra qualifications to be a trustworthy professional. In fact, you need none. All you need is being yourself and having empathy for all people you meet & interact within your daily life.
My personal experience tells me that you don’t want to let go of the person when you trust someone. The whole journey of life becomes so much more comfortable in the company of such people. The challenges don’t reduce, but you feel more power with trustworthy people around. Imagine if you are that trustworthy person for your customer – will he not keep you around and refer you to his immediate friends and family? Sometimes it may not make too much economic sense while working to build or win the trust, but it will, in the long run. The rewards will be manifold and will be forever.
Follow these simple principles of Trust Building and see the magic unfold in front of you.
Wishing you all more power as you unlock your hidden / undiscovered potential in these challenging times. Good luck always!!
