#3 Self Leadership first

In my series of aha-moments from my Master of Business Transformation @ HWZ Hochschule für Wirtschaft Zürich , it is mindblowing to dig into the world of self leadership. It is so obvious, still we give it so little priority.

Do we take it for granted or are we simply afraid of having to deal with ourselves? I used to think leadership was about learning techniques to lead others. Why would I bother about myself. I feel like I've started a new me-journey.

No man can lead others, who cannot lead himself. Socrates - 5th Century B.C.

The 21st century hasn't brought the theme to the table. It's been lying there, ready to explore. If "I" influence "we", which in the end determines "the entity", then there is a very good reason to give "me" a closer look. Vice versa, it means that in order to change the entity, the I needs to be worked upon, before the we.

(adapted from Ken Wilber, Integral theory - see also my first article)

Key aspects of self leadership could be resumed to tapping into your unconscious and conscious resources. Some you'll have to discover or address, others you'll have to learn or sharpen.

Fit for transformation

Start with taking care of your physical, mental and emotional health, so you can perform. Be creative and innovative, then execute well. That's how you obtain success. Fitness is not just about the body, it is about our being as a whole.

Our BANI* reality definitely requires a different approach, so self leadership might be a starting point. It is said that brittleness requires capacity & resilience, anxiety empathy & mindfulness, nonlinearity context & adaptivity, and finally incomprehensibility demands transparency & intuition.

We admire our leaders because they have held themselves to such a high standard. And in doing so, they've inspired us to do the same."
