That moment reinforced what I’ve known for years: if you don’t plan ahead, real estate will keep you working long past when you want to stop.


Starting Over at 56

I wasn’t always in real estate. At 56 years old, I switched careers from financial planning. I only knew one person in my state, but I dove in, determined to build something from nothing.

I had watched my mother work tirelessly in real estate until she was 82, and I swore I’d never follow that path. But when the 2006 market boom didn’t add up financially, I knew a crash was coming.

When the housing market collapsed, I pivoted to working expired listings and short sales—helping desperate sellers navigate tough times. That period shaped my career, but more importantly, it taught me a critical lesson:

I needed a plan beyond just selling houses.


The Moment That Changed Everything

Years later, after growing my business, I outgrew my brokerage and made a move that secured my financial future—I joined eXp Realty.

At the time, I barely knew what it was. But two weeks into joining a high-performing team, they said, “We’re moving to eXp.” I followed, and that single decision changed my life.
