3 Secret Facts YOU MUST KNOW to crack your Next Job Interview!

What is the first feeling that you feel when you hear the word? "Job Interview”?

Isn’t that scary?

Let’s accept it. We all have feared interviews and most still do.?

Why?

Because this term by itself takes us to a place where we are going to be judged by the person who we call the interviewer, and this person has the authority to easily reject us, many times, for no reason at all.?

We are supposed to know all the answers.?

And if we don’t, we risk losing the job offer that we might otherwise get rewarded with.

Everyone has their own shares of fears and doubts about Job Interviews.?

Honestly, score of years ago, this whole interview thing was nothing less than a horror movie for me.

The very thought of facing an interview used to withdraw my sanity, and I would not stop visualising myself sitting into a terrifying seat and answering the questions, like I was a criminal going through a tortuous interrogation, trying hard to prove my innocence.

Well, If you can relate, and the chances are you do if you’re an active job seeker... desperate to land a job offer as fast as you can.?

The chances are even more if you have failed a few recent interviews.

But, let me tell you, my friend, that you don’t really need to worry about interviews any more.?

Years later when I cracked the code of the ‘interview mystery’, this all became fun for me.?

I started nailing almost all the interviews that I ever attended.?

Today, I am sharing with you 3 secret facts that no one talks about the job interviews, and when you know them, you will find attending interviews super easy and lots of fun.

Secret Fact #1:

You’re NOT the only one who’s nervous during an interview.

If you think that a job interview is way too pressurising for you, take a break from that ugly thought.?

It’s not just you, who is feeling uncomfortable, the interviewer is also feeling the same pressure.?

I agree that the person who interviews is in a bit of a dominating position, however, they too have a challenge to find a good candidate who fits well into the company culture and the job criteria.?

They also are doing their job, and they want to do their job well.

And want to convince their managers about their decision.?

So, you both are pretty equal.

What I mean by this is that you don't need to look up to them as your boss or a higher authority who you want to please.?

Yes. You certainly want to impress them, as you would in any other professional, social or personal meeting.

So, chill.?

Secret Fact #2:

It’s not an interrogation, just a conversation.

Yes. You’re not being interrogated at an interview.

What you’re expected to do is just to hold a good conversation.?

You’re certainly going to be judged, but that’s okay.?

After all, being judged is a normal scenario for us humans.? So, there is nothing different.?

As the interviewer is judging you, so are you.

Don’t you?

Carry out a normal conversation that you would with a friend.

And that’s it.

Most people, when entering the interview room, they do so with a passive state of mind. They think that they are there to impress the interviewer(s) with their great knowledge, and skill set.?

They are supposed to just give the best answers to the questions they get asked.?

And usually, they wouldn’t indulge in a normal spontaneous conversation, giving away all their power and authority to the person who’s sitting on the other side.?

So, the next time you step into the interview room, see the interviewer as a friend, feel relaxed. And have a good, friendly conversation.?

You have nothing to lose.?

Yes, you heard correctly.?

Because you lose what you already have. But this job offer is not yet given to you.?

So, it’s your opportunity to practice your communication skills.?

This is the biggest secret of my continuous success at interviews.?

I used to be just myself.?

If I got the job (that I mostly would because of this mindset), it’s a win.

And if I wouldn’t sometimes, it strengthened my muscle to do better at the next interview.

Secret Fact #3

You get hired when the interviewer likes you over other candidates, and not because you’re best suited for this job.

Even if you have all the top skills ever needed for the job, impressive education, and fantastic experience to back that with, you still might lose.?

Not because you’re not fit for the job role, but because perhaps some other candidate could have had an interesting and engaging conversation better than you did.

What I mean to say is that we humans are emotional creatures. We most often tend to make emotional decisions, and then look for logic.

A Harvard study shows that we make decisions on an emotional basis and only appeal to logic to justify these decisions.

You may be the 'best-qualified-top-skilled' candidate, but if you can’t hold a clear, delightful and spontaneous conversation, and present yourself in an optimised way, you are much more likely to lose it.
