Times are hard right now, aren’t they? The cost-of-living crisis, rising inflation and the ongoing COVID epidemic, to name just a few, are challenging us all at the moment. ?
As you might expect, these challenges are contributing to more mental strain, stress and anxiety for employees as they worry about everything from?rising energy prices to having less household spending power. ?
We?know that line managers are best placed to help employees ride through work-related stress and personal ones, but only if they’re robustly trained to do so.?
Poor?managerial styles, skills or a lack of confidence have been shown to impact employee engagement thereby increasing stress-related absences and presenteeism directly.?
So, with inflation expected to rise to 11% in the autumn, the reality is that things are going to get even more challenging for employees and they will need more support from their leaders. Therefore, robust wellbeing leadership training for line managers would be vital in helping employees weather the looming economic storm.?
So, why invest in wellbeing leadership training for managers? Here are 3 reasons:?
1. Well-trained managers have?proven to be an effective and pre-emptive way to intercept mental health issues at an early stage?
Line managers are often the first port of call for employees who are struggling with mental health. Research has found that the employees of managers that have had the relevant mental health training have seen a reduction in anxiety, depression and stress, as well as an increase in greater overall wellbeing; which significantly impacts organisational results.?

2. It will give line managers the confidence to start and continue sensitive discussions they might not otherwise have?
Line managers often feel reluctant to start conversations about mental health for fear of making things worse,?saying the wrong things, or feeling like they’re pandering to poor performance. When well-trained they are able to navigate uncomfortable conversations with their team members experiencing a wide range of life challenges such as divorce, menopause, and financial worries, which can often exacerbate mental wellbeing issues, leading to poor performance.?
3. It helps to promote a culture of wellbeing by creating an open and supportive workplace to get people thinking and talking about mental health?
Managers learn to lead with empathy and are able to create psychologically safe spaces necessary to foster?a culture of openness, wellbeing and positive productivity in the workplace. ?

2 年Totally agree with this and in particular investing in the fertility wellbeing of employees. Research clearly demonstrates the impact on both employee mental health and retention. Sadly, line managers are woefully ill-equipped in dealing with fertility in the workplace which results in a huge organisational challenge.
