Have you heard about this mobile broadcasting thing? Does it sound like a tv news van to you? Well, you're not totally wrong.
Earlier this year Twitter launched Periscope to compete with other social platforms' video capabilities. So, what is it? Periscope is a live broadcast app that connects with Twitter. When you begin a broadcast, a link to that broadcast is automatically posted to your Twitter feed. What makes Periscope special is that it's live. That's right, no more recording and editing videos, just hit the button and you're live. Because it's attached to Twitter, all of the hashtags you'd use in a normal tweet can be added to your broadcast link tweet.
Live broadcasts are a great way to increase engagement with your fans. Who follows this sort of thing? All of your Twitter followers. Here are a few ways to engage your audience:
1. Behind the scenes
Give your fans a peek behind the curtain. Many fans are interested in things that are usually off-limits to visitors, or can't be explained unless seen live. Show your fans how you make your hollandaise sauce or how a t-shirt is silk screened. Take fans on a tour of your office and let them ask questions about what type of coffee you have in the break room.
2. Become the Resident Expert
If you create a product, this one is easy. Show people how they can use it. You might be surprised at how many people are unaware of the innumerable ways they can use your product. That shovel can be used to dig a pool, a sandbox, move mulch, and pick up after Rover.
3. Share Live Events
Whether you're at a trade show or a concert, your audience probably wants to be there with you. When you bring them along, be sure to make them a part of your event by letting them ask questions and, if you're feeling adventurous, give you directions.
One of the best features of Periscope is the ability to comment on the live video. Users can type a message to you that will show up in the lower left corner of your screen. You can then respond to them verbally or by taking an action they've requested.
What now?
The possibilities are limitless. Use your imagination, and ask your audience for feedback and ideas. They may have ideas that you never would have imagined.
Wouldn't it be great to give your local pizza joint directions on how you want your pizza made while they are making it?
