3 Reasons Why You Need a Retreat

There are one million reasons not to escape to take care of ourselves. Believe me, I've used them all.
I don't have time, I don't have money, I can't take time away from work or the kids, I already have a family trip coming up, I feel selfish taking a trip for just me.
But should you peel away the outside layers of thinking, you will encounter an even more profound reason TO GO on retreat calling you.
Here are 3 reasons why WE ALL could benefit from retreat...
1. Because you don't have time
That's right, you read it correctly. You need a retreat because you don't have the time for one. Yep.
We fill our lives to the brim with social happenings, work related endeavors, family and various other obligations. We are grinders. Masterful task handlers. It is truly amazing how much we can accomplish.
But if we do not pull away to intentionally reevaluate just how we go about our grind, then our lives that we've so masterfully scheduled begin to run us, as opposed to the other way around.
Oddly enough, going on retreat allows for more time in our lives once we return back home. Retreat allows us to get radically clear on what matters in life, what we want, who we want to spend time with, and how we want to spend that precious time. Retreating allows the insignificant tasks, the unhealthy relationships, the unnecessary, to gradually fade into the distance leaving more time for what does really matter.
2. Because we all need fresh perspective
Breaking routine by going on retreat allows us a beautiful opportunity to look at our lives back home from a bird's eye view. When we are living it day to day, we cannot see the systems that are not entirely working, we do not fully appreciate our partner with whom we share the same bed, and we do not remember on a regular basis how quickly our kids are growing.
Stepping away allows the chance to remember all the things in our lives that are working well so we may come home and fully appreciate them. Retreat also offers the chance to see what shifts are necessary upon our return to live our lives with complete intention.
3. Because we deserve to be an inspiration
Without fail, every time I return from retreat, people tell me how awesome it is that I went away by myself to regain my footing.
How can we be fully present workers, parents or partners when we lack inspiration in our own lives? How can we share aliveness and mental and emotional clarity with others if we don't first claim it for ourselves? It is my deep belief that this work is an individual inside job. We must first bring our own frequencies up in order to share them with others.
We focus so much of our lives on "heath" by means of eating broccoli and hitting the gym. But what for our mental/emotional health? What are our regular practices of self-care in these arenas? Retreat allows us to clean up our mental/emotional clutter and get about the business of what really matters so we can share our best selves with our VIPs at home.
You ARE an inspiration. And the more you model mental and emotional health by pulling out on occasion, the more massive impact you can have on everyone around you.
We all deserve to live from this level of heightened awareness. It is our greatest gift to offer the world.
Hope to see you on retreat soon.
Deep love,
Brie
