I have been a student, an employee and a startup founder. The biggest lesson that I have learnt is the importance of creating a personal brand! If I could go back in time then I would go back and start creating my personal brand while I was just an engineering student.

Let’s face it we are always competing in a rat race. Gone are the days where you could be great at something and get recognised for it automatically. In today's online world you need to amplify your greatness constantly to have a decent chance of being recognised.
If you have created a digital presence on any of the platforms above chances are that you can easily grow your followers and in turn, create your brand. Engaged followers on any platform speak volumes of your capabilities that no one will be able to replicate on their resume.

Most of us will end up in a job. It might happen that your passion and your day job may not be the same. Create your personal brand around your passion. If you have invested in creating your personal brand, you can always start generating second income till a point where your second income beats your primary income. This will only happen if you have invested your time in creating a personal brand and people accept your expertise.

Businesses are hard to start and you need significant know-how before you take the plunge. If you have personal brand then starting up won’t be a big challenge since you might find your primary customers in your followers itself! I recently had an acquaintance reach out to me and say they’ve been seeing my posts more and more frequently. The reason? I’ve been posting more (and more relevant) content on Twitter and Facebook recently.
