3 reasons why visiting trade fairs, exhibitions and conferences is still important (to me)!

Scrolling through the news feeds on today's social business platforms, one might assume that there is only one timely and appropriate way to engage with customers....
"300% growth - guaranteed"
"Our customer achieved 100K p.a. Before, now he achieves 100K, ... per week!"
"How I got 3K followers in 60 days!"
....and sometimes it feels like that's all you need to start and run your business.
Do I sometimes feel a bit old-fashioned when I meet customers and partners at trade fairs and conferences? Yes, I do, but there's something about that face-to-face interaction that's essential to starting a business. Some things only arise from a personal conversation.
1 Trust!
Do you remember the times of the pandemic? For me, every new project starting between spring 2020 and the end of 2021 was connected to existing clients, to people I met in person at least once.

2 Time and attention!
You make time in your busy schedule to visit a place, be available for a meeting, and give 100% of your attention. For me it is a sign of respect for your client. You don't attend such an event between emptying the dishwasher and mowing the lawn.
3 Feeling for the market and real demand!
When an industry is in an almost conclave situation, a completely different atmosphere emerges. You get a feeling for the market situation, the expectations, the trends and finally and most importantly: the actual pain-points! What is the market waiting for? What’d make it easier for your clients?
I'll definitely stay old-fashioned. I will carefully consider which conferences and exhibitions to attend, but once I've decided to go there, I'll focus all my attention on the next face-to-face meeting with my clients and partners.
