3 reasons why using an Interior Designer on your home is a good choice.
I know, I know, you have just bought your home and hiring an Interior Designer just seems like yet another expenditure that you just don’t need right now. Well it may surprise you to find out that hiring that designer might just be the smartest and financially savvy choice you have made in a while. Why? You ask, for three very good reasons that I sahll go into detail for you.
- Maximize the way you use your house
Very much like the law of physics that gas will expand to fill the container it is in, so do many people expand to the size of home that they live in. In fact for many of us we probably overfill our home. A good designer can really look at the space in your home and will find creative ways for your space to work for you. This might be as simple as arranging the furniture in a way to maximize the sense of space or to take advantage of a beautiful view, to finding creative solutions to your storage needs. It is a source of great sadness to me to see beautiful homes not used to their fullest potential.
This also applies to more than just the practical aspect of a house. Good design in a home can measurably increase the sense of happiness in a home, improve family relations and even create more success in your life and the lives of your family. Simple things like organised spaces or elegant rooms created by designers can have dramatic effects on your family.
2. Because it will bring joy to your home
I, like the rest of the country it seems am a big fan of Marie Kondo and her philosophy of holding an object and asking if it brings you joy, and letting this question guide whether you keep it or lose it. I think that you should ask the same question of your home. If the answer is no, then an Interior Designer is the first call you should make. It might be as simple as a new color scheme or as creative as a new furniture layout, just don’t underestimate the skills a designer can bring to your project. Over my career I have almost lost count of the number of times we have taken homes that clients have felt ambivalent about and transformed them into dream homes. Here is a link to one of my before and after videos that really illustrates that point.
3. It will increase the value of your home
Decorating a home can feel like a very expensive and endless business. But do you see reward from it. Yes, as I mentioned in the previous two sections there is both a functional and joyous reward to be had. What of the financial though? Yes, survey after survey have said that a beautiful, well decorated home can add to the sales price of the home as much as 10 -12%. Thats a big jump, regardless of where on the scale your home lays. In addition to that, well-bought pieces are also a smart investment. I recently completed a home for an old client of mine and we have sofas that we have recovered now for the fourth time as we have gone from home to home, but because we bought well made pieces at the beginning they have paid for themselves many times over. This can be said not just of pieces of upholstery bt cabinetry and even antiques.
So next time you are debating on whether to call me to design your home, think of me as an investment in yours and your family’s future!
