3 Reasons Why Getting Up Early Changes Everything
For many years, I was a night owl. My friends and I created/promoted concerts and events in Hollywood, Downtown Los Angeles and other parts of LA. The work would start at 7pm and end at 2am - sometimes even later. I used to think that getting up early (consistently) just wasn't in the cards for me. I was wrong. Maybe you're like me. Maybe you've been wrong too. Maybe you should get up early, no matter what it takes. It's changed everything, for me.
Over the years, I've tried getting up early (4:30am, 5am etc) and was never able to make it stick. One month ago, this changed. I took on a new opportunity that essentially forced me to wake up at 4:30am, Monday - Friday. Being "forced" to do this meant I no longer had to use my willpower. It just had to happen... no matter how hard it was.
I'll be honest. For the first 2 weeks, it was hell. I felt like I was falling asleep, had little energy and constantly forgot things that I needed to remember. Fast forward to now (5 weeks later), everything has changed. My productivity has gone through the roof! I've hired several new people, started eating much better and just generally feel more alive. And the best part is... I no longer struggle waking up early.
I now wake up at 4:30am, 7 days a week. Once in a while, I'll allow myself the luxury of sleeping in and will wake up at 5:30am. Today, for example, is Sunday. I woke up at 5:30am and got more done in the first few hours of the day than I would have previously gotten done in an entire day (when I was waking up later).
You've no doubt heard this advice before: Wake up early every day. I know I did. I fought it for most of my life. But I've now taken The Red Pill. And I'm never going back. All that said, this is why waking up early has changed everything for me.
1. Instant Sense of Accomplishment
Waking up early gives you an instant sense of accomplishment. When that happens to you every single day, it boosts your confidence. You end up taking more chances (in a positive way) and accomplish more throughout the day.
2. No Distractions
Very few people get up at 4:30am or around that time. While the world around you is asleep, you're getting things done. No one is bothering you with their problems or asking you for anything. It's just time for you to be your best self.
3. Time Creation
I'm convinced that waking up early is the closest we can get to creating more time. For whatever reason I always waste more time when I don't wake up early. I have no reason, scientific or otherwise, to explain why this is the case. But it's true for me. And I bet it's true for you.
