There is nothing more disappointing than receiving an email from Facebook saying that your ad, which you created in painstaking detail, has been rejected. It makes you feel frustrated and confused.
If your ad has been rejected, it is likely that it has violated Facebook's extensive advertising policy. Some of the rules are obvious, such as a ban on targeting alcohol ads to minors, while others are unclear, such as a ban on having too much text in your ads.
Here are three common reasons why Facebook rejected your ad.
1. Your Ad Image Has Too Much Text
Facebook has many bans when it comes to your ad image, including a ban on violence and nudity. While that ban may be obvious to you, what may not be obvious is the ban on too much text. Facebook's advertising policy says:
"Ads cannot include images made up of more than 20% text, including logos and slogans."
Facebook doesn't explain why it prohibits images with too much text, but you can speculate on two reasons:
Aesthetics: Because images attract the most attention, your ad image should be high quality and aesthetically pleasing. Images with too much text look messy and therefore not aesthetically pleasing.
Poor performance: Facebook may have previously allowed text to clutter images, but ads with such images never performed well. To encourage better results, Facebook banned images with too much text.
Whether you agree with this rule or not, it's best to stick to it so your ads are delivered.
2. Your Ads Name Facebook
If you create an ad that mentions Facebook (by typing the word "Facebook" or "#Facebook" in any of your ad copy), your ad will likely be rejected. Facebook does this for several reasons:
You don't want any company claiming to associate with your brand.
You do not want anyone to assert your rights to the brand.
He does not want anyone to associate the brand with pornography, illegal activities, among others, that violate its policies.
To avoid this problem, don't write the word "Facebook" in any of your texts. Rather, refer to Facebook with alternative names like "social media giant" or "social network."
3. Your Ad Shows Before and After Photos
If your ad contains a before and after image, it has violated one of Facebook's advertising policies. It states:
"Ads may not contain" before and after "images or unexpected or unlikely results."
Facebook bans before-and-after photos, probably because those photos can cause you to mislead yourself without realizing it. If you promised surprising or difficult-to-achieve results, such as extreme and rapid weight loss, your customers can take legal action if the product or service does not deliver on its promise.
There are many other ways you can unintentionally break Facebook's ad policy, but the list above is the one that is commonly broken. For more information on Facebook's ad policies not mentioned here, visit the Facebook policy page.
