3 Reasons Why Every Day Should Be Halloween
The colors, camaraderie, and the candy. ??
Is there anything better? As a parent of a soon-to-be 2 year old daughter and 5 year old boy, Halloween may be the most underrated—and dare I say best?—holiday.
- ?? The Colors: There's something purely magical about Halloween in Nebraska. The trees and plants change hues to brilliant oranges, yellows, and reds. The fall smell is also unbeatable—typically a faint smell of smoke (someone in the neighborhood has a fire going) and the smell of leaves as they slowly, romantically fall from the trees.
- ?? The Camaraderie: Halloween makes me think of what the "olden days" in neighborhoods must've been like. The days long before televisions and smartphones monopolized people's time and attention. People are out and about, genuinely happy, saying "Happy Halloween" to each other. You get to see those same people maximize the spirit of the holiday by dressing as ANYTHING. THEY. WANT. TO. BE. There's nothing like it.
- ?? The Candy: So, you're telling me there's a holiday where you can get dressed up as something fun, scary, sexy?, and go to a stranger's house, ring their doorbell and politely ask for candy with a not-so-secret phrase? Sign me up. Porch lights on is the universal sign for, "Candy here! Come ask for it!" ??
My son had, perhaps, three of my new favorite lines about Halloween..."Halloween should be longer," "Candy is good for your body," "Dad, every day should be Halloween."
To that, I'd say, "Yes," "Candy can be good for your soul," and "Yes, son, every day should be Halloween."
