Gather around the campfire and make yourself a mug of cocoa, because I’ve got something scary to tell you: you need to start using video as part of your social media strategy. Wait, don’t run away!
I know this is scary for a lot of us (myself included). The tech, the editing, the lighting, speaking into a camera… It can feel overwhelming! But let me throw some stats at you.
Viewers retain approximately 95% of a video’s message.
About 93% of brands earned a new customer from a social media video.
Video consumption on mobile devices rises 100% each year!

3 Reasons Video Is Essential To Growing Your Thought Leadership
You saw the stats up above; video content is an important part of modern marketing, and it’s growing exponentially each year. If you want to attract new business and up your engagement, it needs to be a part of your strategy.
But don’t just take my word for it. I’m lucky enough to have two outstanding team members who specialize in video production and management, Megan (she/her) and Daisy (she/her), who shared why video is such a powerful tool for growth.

Clarify your communications
If you’ve ever had an email conversation go south, you know how hard written communication can be. Blame it on our text messaging culture or tv or whatever you’d like, but there are times when written work just isn’t clear. If your blogs or emails aren’t getting your message across, Incontrera Consulting's Chief Technology Officer Megan Zebrowski suggests looking to video: “it’s easier to convey subtext with verbal communication.” Video is a perfect way for you to look viewers in the eye and communicate with them directly, allowing you to make your message loud and clear.
Diversify your audience
If you’re not using video, you’re not reaching everyone. Both Megan and Daisy Rosato, our resident Assistant Editor, told me that people engage more with videos than with text, and there are a few reasons for that.?
Not everyone is a big reader. There are a lot of smart people out there who may be a perfect fit for your and your thought leadership, but if they’re someone who deletes the newsletters in their inbox instead of reading them, you may not be reaching them. Video is a great way to bring them in.?
Daisy brought up another group you may be missing: the under-30 and/or tech-savvy crowd. Demographics show us that not everyone uses social media the same way. A Facebook post may go a long way with more mature generations who (and this is a generalization so don’t be cranky) aren’t as tech-forward, but if you’re hoping to catch the eye of someone who grew up on computers, that isn’t going to cut it. Don’t underestimate the power of Gen Z or tech-savvy millennials like me; we’re stepping into leadership roles every day! Widen your audience base and watch your engagement grow.
Get Personal
In our current social media-driven world, people aren’t just buying a course or a product, they’re buying YOU. Megan says that a charismatic, personal video can be a game changer in establishing a personal brand. Think about it. Two people are selling an identical leadership course; do you buy the one with the video of the course creator introducing themselves and the course, or do you buy the one with the text-only homepage?
Done right, a video that shows off your energy will draw people in and make potential clients want to work with you. I love this Brené Brown quote: “When you shut down vulnerability you shut down opportunity.” So be real, be vulnerable enough to show your followers your authentic self and watch the clients roll in.

2 年Video marketing is here to stay and we all need to get comfortable with it including me. I put off making videos because I'm having a bad hair day, or I need to put on makeup or in some way make myself more presentable. This is about me, not anyone watching, but I'm vain enough to think it matters. As for TikTok I'm also curious and would love to know more.
