Mom left the house to take care of some errands.
Baby bro is watching TV.
Received a shoe package yesterday and will find out later who sent it.
It's cloudy. 41 degrees here in New York.
Let's talk about 3 reasons to listen.
------------------------------
Listening is important.
You learn from people and gain insights.
Here are 3 reasons to listen:
1. To make someone feel important.
Have you ever spoken to Grandma or the kids?
They listen to you:
to show respect.
to be curious.
to learn.
Pay attention.
Listen to understand people.
2. To improve your listening skills.
I picked up a tip yesterday from the Director of Rooms to call the Accounting department.
He said to call to see if someone is available.
If no one is there to let the customer know they can leave a voicemail.
Every day is a chance to improve yourself.
You become a 1% better listener than you were the day before.
Try this exercise:
Write down the conversations you had this week in a journal.
Any meetings, chats, or talks.
Even if it is in a coffee shop.
Talk about the challenges you had.
Mention anything you did well in and what to improve.
You learn what to adjust and move forward.
3. To build relationships.
It will take time.
Relationships don't grow from trees.
You have to listen and make an effort.
When you help people feel heard, they will listen to what you say.
P.S. Do you listen more or talk more?
Learn to listen every day. Its a great practice. To hear what other says, not to think of ehat you want to ask Appreciate you Craig Davis and happy for milestone of 500 #craignotes

9 个月Wonderful article as always Craig Listening is indeed crucial for various reasons as outlined in your post and I love how it connects with continuous growth and learning. As for your question, listening and talking are both essential in communication and finding a balance between the two is key to effective and meaningful interactions. Sometimes, people want us to talk to them, sometimes they want us to listen and sometimes they want us to do neither and just need a hug. Understanding these actions can lead to deeper connections. I once wrote an article about this. Do you mind if I share it?
