3 Reasons Everyone on Your Sales Team Needs a Strong Personal Brand

I'm going to pick on the real estate industry for a bit, here. Sorry, ladies and gents.
The reason why is because I have direct experience marketing for both commercial and residential groups in this industry, so I understand that there is a notorious resistance to utilizing technology (social media) for advertising or branding.
Perhaps there is a culture of "we've always done it this way" permeating it, but that's another topic for another day.
No matter what industry you're in, if you are managing (or part of) a team that has autonomy or whose individual success directly impacts the group's success, every single person needs a strong personal brand online.
Here's why:
- A strong brand conveys authority.
What if everyone in your organization was a well known expert in your industry? What if they collectively boasted thousands of engaged followers who look to them for knowledge and guidance in tech, finance, real estate, insurance, plumbing, or whatever product/service you provide?
People trust and rely on those who provide value to them on a regular basis through writing blog posts or producing videos. If you know what you're talking about, people who are *already looking* for the information you're providing are going to find you and begin learning from you. And, people who learn from your free content - will want to know how they can pay you for more (or hire you for your services).
You'll be spending less time chasing prospects, and more time fielding incoming leads who found you online.
2. A strong brand builds a confident person.
Even though all of us should establish our own sense of confidence and self worth, there is no denying that positive public reinforcement is certainly a help.
If you can assist your team in producing high quality content that receives positive feedback from their audience(s), they are going to be more likely to continue on this path themselves. Think of it like pushing them forward on training wheels until they start going so fast on their own, the training wheels bust at the bolts and fly off.
People who feel better about their work will perform their work better. Their individual productivity will then continue to motivate them even further, and it will be a win/win for everyone involved.
3. A strong brand encourages loyalty.
Imagine you've got robust support and encouragement from your company. They provide you with learning resources, branding collateral, ongoing training, and security for your family...
Why would you ever leave this company?
One of the big problems we are facing as a society these days is a complete lack of loyalty. We are missing it when it comes to personal relationships, job security, company loyalty, and just about every area where there might be something bigger and better that comes along.
So, how do we solve this problem? Simple - cultivate relationships with your team through genuine communication and learning what truly drives them. What makes them feel fulfilled and successful? What are they looking to achieve through their work? What are their personal goals that your organization can help them achieve through professional support?
People feel disconnected from their companies because they feel disconnected from the work. Or from the management. Or from the CEO. We are de-humanizing our workplace and forgetting that everyone we work with has wants, needs, fears, and desires.
Nothing says "I care about you as a person" like saying "I will do whatever I can to help you succeed."
If you can nurture a strong personal brand for an individual that is tied to the success of a team, you can solidify a loyal, happy, motivated, and fulfilled team who work together towards a common goal.
Not just success - but also happiness.
