The municipal wastewater treatment plant in Bodrum, Turkey, was faced with the challenge of replacing its outdated membrane modules.
In this interview, Samira Khesti, Chemical Engineer, explains why MYTEX RETROFIT was proposed as an economical alternative and how the implementation has impacted the overall performance of the wastewater treatment plant.
What specific challenges did you face before modernizing the wastewater treatment plant in Bodrum, Turkey?
Before the municipal wastewater treatment plant in Bodrum was modernized, the challenge was to replace outdated membrane modules and find an economical alternative. The wastewater treatment plant operators were compelled to buy completely new modules, which could eventually impose a heavy burden on the economy and efficiency of the plant.
Why was the MYTEX Retrofit proposed as a solution to the challenges of the wastewater treatment plant?
Our MYTEX Retrofit was proposed to reduce costs and improve the efficiency of the wastewater treatment plant. The advantage was obvious: it offers high packing density and user-friendly handling compared to conventional alternatives. The drop-in solution enables a step-by-step upgrade to the latest membrane technology with minimal cost and time. It also requires no additional retrofits or adjustments to the control system, and existing peripherals and control systems can remain unchanged.

How has the implementation of the MYTEX retrofit affected the overall performance and reliability of the wastewater treatment plant?
Significant results were achieved after implementation. The cost of spare parts has been significantly reduced as the MYTEX Retrofit is a more cost-effective alternative to expensive individual components. Despite a larger membrane area, the MYTEX occupies the same container space as an alternative product, allowing a 50% increase in membrane area for the same footprint. The air consumption of the alternative is twice as much as MYTEX, which means that it is enormously energy efficient. In addition, time-consuming and energy-intensive cleaning processes are no longer necessary as not all components have to be dismantled.
What other areas of application do you see for MYTEX Retrofit outside of municipal wastewater treatment?
Our case study demonstrates the effectiveness of this solution as a cost-effective and energy-efficient alternative to replacing obsolete membrane modules for wastewater treatment plants. It makes it possible to reduce the investment costs, minimize the required time and improve the performance of wastewater treatment plants, either municipal or industrial.
