The 3 Ps to Unlocking Your Career

When I entered the world of work almost 30 years ago, I had no idea where my career path would lead to. I was sure of a few things, like learning as much as I can, managing my relationships with my superiors and colleagues, and applying myself to the job.

There was also one more thing I was certain of, not to repeat the mistakes I made during my school years. The very first year I started working, I began my pursuit for knowledge.

Every year since then, I would sign up for some kind of program, and I obtained many certificates, diplomas, an undergraduate degree and all my certifications in coaching. Even during Covid-19, I did many courses on LinkedIn Learning and Coursera.

Volunteering with our local human resource association, is how I was able to build my network. The opportunities to interact with people locally, regionally and internationally was amazing.

Life was preparing me for where and who I am today. Upon reflection, I realised there are 3 Ps that are critical when charting a career path:

1.Purpose - this is the WHY you do what you do; what wakes you up on a morning and keeps you going throughout the day.

2. Passion - is a burning desire within you that brings sparks of excitement to do work that is fulfilling.

3. People - we exist in a world where connectivity has been made easy because of technology. Connecting with the right people is important, they are the ones who will hold your hand and cheer you along to the finish line.

Discovering your Purpose, Passion and the People within your network, will help you unlock your career path. It is a process that works when you intentionally set about to make it happen.

I may not have known where my career would lead to, but I intentionally set about to create it. Do What You Love and Love Doing It!
