The 3 P's of Interior Design

The 3 P's of Interior Design

Interior design is more than just arranging furniture and decorating rooms. It involves creativity, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to embrace new challenges. As the world of commercial furniture continues to evolve, there will always be new problems to solve. However, with a positive attitude and a focused approach, there is always a solution waiting to be found. If you want to create the best experience for customer, rep, dealer, manufacturer, and your own sanity, operate with these 3 "P's" in mind.

1. Perspective

Just because you’ve encountered an interior design problem that you have never seen before, doesn’t mean there is no solution. Interior design at its heart, is problem solving. Approaching new challenges armed with optimism will help you see new and innovative solutions. The world of commercial furniture is always evolving and coming up with new solutions to challenges. If 2020 taught us anything, it is that we are resilient and able to handle more than we ever imagined.

2. Priorities

You don’t have to have the energy or resources to tackle every interior design challenge that is in front of you at once; and there will be many! Figure out what is most important vs what is most urgent. Prioritize your goals, work out which of those you can tackle, and then pursue that with everything you’ve got. Be relentless in your focus.

3. Patience

Be patient. Change and growth takes time, and there are no corners to be cut. There are certain things you can't rush; like experience, the selection/procurement process, or lead times. Some things just take the amount of time they take. That's okay! You may think you need it sooner, but it does take time to create quality furniture. Be as patient with those manufacturers as you would like your clients to be with you. Good solutions take time.

Unfortunately, the interior design process is not a one-size-fits-all solution. But, by focusing on what is most important, taking the time to work through the details, and being patient with the process, designers can create beautiful, functional spaces that meet their clients' needs, and tackle any challenge that comes their way.
