3 Principles to bulletproof YOUR Personal Growth
We all want growth, but how many of us are willing to change and do the work required for it?
The truth is that this Personal Growth is a messy business.
It means that we must be extremely comfortable with change, leave the comfort of our own nest to expose our weaknesses to direct sunlight.
Because if nothing changes, nothing changes. And so, we can very much forget any growth-leading outcomes.
As Robin Sharma famously writes.
“All Change is hard at first, Messy in the middle and gorgeous in the end”
For me personally and I believe this to be true for so many others, the messy middle is the hardest part.
The reason is that that’s where the plateau exists. The beginning is often fun and exciting as we are all “Gung-Ho” to get the new business started with the tank full of fresh energy and Focus. But when the first uphill shows up around the corner, we start to think about what in the world we signed up for.
That’s when our integrity and determination are often measured hardest against our values and beliefs. Ultimately the questions become, how much we want it and how much are we willing to sacrifice & struggle for it??
And I use the word “struggle” very intentionally here because one of the misconceptions we have about business, growth, and especially about high performance is that it would somehow get easier down the line.
That obviously is far from the truth. Our challenges and obstacles might take a different shape but by no means they will disappear.
Some of us are addicted to struggle or think if it was easy, we are doing something wrong.
The growth principles.
#1 Seasons
When we look at Nature and our surrounding environment, we quickly come to understand the seasonality of life and growth. There are seasons with everything, including growth. Nothing is continuously growing 365 days of the year.
There are periods of smooth growth, yes, but there are also periods of tension, competition, and breakdowns.
Again, if we are aiming to be on growth mode all day every day, we are missing the point and, in my mind, going against the natural flow of life.

My question simply is why going against it when paddling downstream is so much more of a smoother ride.
#2 Need and a Necessity
If we look at Growth on the level of human needs, it appears there on the top with the contribution. We are wired for Growth as I personally get quite anxious whenever I experience stagnation or lack of progress.
Maybe at my seventy’s this burning desire to evolve, be better as a human being and serve on a higher level won’t burn that bright anymore… Maybe, by then I have different priorities, principles, and set of values from which I operate…
Until that date though, I keep showing up and putting in the effort to get better at anything and everything that I do. Including writing these little inspirational newsletters for you! ??

#3 Recharge periods
Something that is crucially important to remember is this: Physical growth happens not in the act of tension and stress but in a state of rest and recharge.
This is true to the regeneration of our brain cells and neural connections as well as more widely understood factor about muscle growth.
The key idea is that the more we push and stress our system (Body/ Mind) ?more we need to pay attention to its recovery periods.
Hence the reason so many people rather play small than step up to the level of high performance which also means saying "No" to almost everything else.
Focus, dedication, and relentless pursuit of your best must become with a high degree of detail to our Sleep and quality of our downtime.
In short
We all need Growth. It is the juice of life and the sweet nectar in high achievers’ lifestyle design.
Though always drink responsibly and sustainably!
Share the fun and stay on the race because, at the end of the day, there is no finish line in this pursuit.

3 年What do we want? Change! - When do we want it? Never! It is so true. I see organizations and individuals time and time again falling short on implementing the change they want in their business and life. Yet another great article, dear Tuomo Vauhkonen. Love it!
