3 Powerful Ways Product Managers Can Use ChatGPT to Boost Their Productivity

I’ve been experimenting with ChatGPT to see how it might augment and support our roles as product managers and here are some ideas on how you can use it.

Note, as a Product Manager you can use ChatGPT or other AI tools to assist in your work. But remember you should review and edit the output.? These tools can provide great ideas and insights, but they may still generate output that is not entirely accurate or relevant to your work.

Additionally, the process of writing is what we use to clarify our thinking. So don’t try to replace it completely.? You want to use your critical thinking skills and use ChatGPT to propel you towards driving impact faster.

With that being said, here are some great ways that you can start using ChatGPT and other AI tools to support your role as a product manager:

Generate Product Feature Ideas

Last week I had a great brainstorm with my team on a new area that we could start investing and building in. We had some great ideas and at the end of our session we put some prompts into ChatGPT to see what it would come up with. It came up with many of the ideas that we had, but also had a really interesting one that we had not contemplated that would be great for advanced users.

Some prompt cues to include:

  1. ?Product area
  2. Target audience
  3. Resources available
  4. Budget or timing constraints

Create User Personas

Understanding your target audience is key to creating successful products.? You can ask ChatGPT to create user personas based on the current demographic and psychographic information that you have.? Ensure that you use the output as a starting point, but continue to drill down and deeply understand and modify the personas as needed for your product.

Some prompt cues to include:

  1. ?Age
  2. Any demographic information you have
  3. Key traits that the user would have

Prompt examples:

  • "Please create a user persona for a 25-year-old male who enjoys outdoor activities and is looking for adventure travel experiences."
  • "Can you create a user persona for a 35-year-old working mother who is interested in healthy eating and has a busy schedule?"

Analyse User Feedback

Gathering and analyzing user feedback is crucial for improving your product. With ChatGPT, you can ask it to analyze user feedback and provide insights on what users like and dislike about your product. This can help you make data-driven decisions and prioritize features and improvements that will have the most impact.? Ensure you add in the specific data that you want ChatGPT to review along with questions you have such as the ones listed below:

  1. "Can you analyze user feedback for our fitness tracking app and tell us what users like and dislike about the app?"
  2. "What are users saying about our online marketplace platform, and how can we use this feedback to improve the platform?"
  3. "Please analyze user feedback for our social media platform and tell us how we can increase user engagement."

I am having a lot of fun experimenting with artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT.? The world is changing and we are going to be able to accomplish more than ever with the help of these tools. Let me know your thoughts on the above, and also ways that you have found ChatGPT has supported your work.

Love this Zabrina Hossain Hossain I recently used it to do an analysis on YouTube Shorts to figure out how to increase user engagement and satisfaction and I was wowed. Like you said, I sometimes had to add really specific questions to tailor the answers but it was amazing.

Give us ChatGPT back! Italians will get competitive disadvantages if access is forbidden only in Italy. Forbidding access in one country does not make sense, it will bring benefits to our competitors. Banning is another unproductive action of our politics, I kindly ask: do not be blind

These are cool ideas, Zabrina Hossain. I have also been using it to generate Gherkin-style Acceptance Criteria for my user stories. Certainly saved at least 50-70% of the time it would take if I was doing it without ChatGPT, depending on the complexity of the feature. All I do is summarize the context of the features and it does a decent job at generating different paths/scenarios.
