3 Powerful Upgrades to Commonly asked questions (and surprising insights on what they tell us)

If you've spent any time around me at all, you'll know that I'm a really big fan of questions and using them to upgrade your experience, behaviours and outcomes.

Questions are MAGIC - and yet... there are questions that tell you SO much, not just in the answering of them, but in the fact that they are being asked at all. And so for today's #SaturdayServing, I'm sharing 3 tell-tale questions that have a lot to say about your business and sharing upgrades on how those questions can improve things for you and your business...

Question 1: What should I do today?

This is such an incredibly powerful question - because it's often the first time it's being asked... and it's already too late.

One of the most powerful things you can give yourself for the success of any project, venture or day - is a sense of both intention and momentum, but if you are trying to get that done for the day in question... you're already behind the curve...

The night before is your friend.

Even if you weren't going to write it down (you should) - you should have a sense of the day that is to come before it arrives...if you are going to make the most of it for what you intended it for (unless that intention was spontaneity)

If the secret to success lies in your daily routine, then it's important to have one (a routine that is) to support and focus your mind.

And a powerful part of that routine should be to ensure that you KNOW what you expect of the day before it arrives... Now OBVIOUSLY life happens, and things change - but the momentum you have in thinking about the day before it arrives is NOT to be overestimated..., so the upgrade to this question would be

Does the plan I had last night for today still apply?

That way, you are giving yourself the chance to respond to the changes in the world, while firmly remaining in control of your most important asset - your time

Question 2: Why do I have to do this?

This is a powerful question because it shows your inner child's tantrum in all its glory! It's never going to be a question you ask about something you WANT to do - and so whether you're feeling put upon, or merely under-inspired, it's a great question to show that you are not doing what you want to do in that moment.

Which leads to a bigger question of why you are doing it at all? Should you be doing it or should it be delegated to someone else?

The number of times people forget that 'No.' is a complete sentence and so take on things that really are not for them is truly alarming - so many people are doing things for no good reason at all...

For those success-minded though - this question gives us a powerful 'tell' about an 'obligation' mindset - focused on what we HAVE to do - rather than that of an opportunity one, focused on what you get to do.

So a powerful upgrade to this question is the one I shared in last week's article of

What does this make possible?

There is an opportunity in every situation - and if you find yourself doing things that you categorically don't want to be doing, then it's an opportunity to feel the pain, to learn it and to enable you to have a visceral experience that you're aiming not to repeat. there is an opportunity in everything, so start looking for it, and you will find it.

Question 3: What am I grateful for?

Ok, this one is a trick question - of course, you should be seeking things to be grateful for and focusing on a powerful gratitude practice.

isIt's a game-changing practice on so many levels and supports such powerful mental focus, and makes use of the most powerful parts of your mind to your benefit.

I share a 3 x 3 x 3 Protocol with the ladies I coach with which extends this idea, and efficacy of gratitude practice to focus even more on giving yourself the power you need to take into the next day...

So a powerful upgrade question for you is:

"What 3 things am I proud of today?"

It's very easy to be generally or even specifically grateful for things, and yet to never get that sense of improvement by NOT focusing your own agency and actions. But by upgrading the question, not only are you focusing on what there is to be grateful for in general, but analysing and assessing your own actions, and giving yourself the chance to improve and focus on those that move your forward.

Questions are at the heart of the best answers we seek... and upgrading our questions can lead to game-changing consequences. To put questions at the heart of all we hold dear and to use them to transform our results in all areas, DM me and ask me about how questions are transforming lives, business and successes for women, and I'll share more!

I love these upgrades! They remind me of reframing "what do I have to do?" to "what do I *get* to do?" And I especially like the second one - "what does this make possible?" - because it's about finding the silver lining in the situation.

This is so true. When I helped degree students with research questions I’d often have to remind them of this
