Yep - as the title suggests - this is my 100th article on Linkedin... in 100 weekends no less. No gaps. No stopping! Yay me! And it's been one hell of a journey since the first weekend of 2020 when I started in this endeavour, but what an interesting ride it's been...
I made a commitment at the start of last year - that I would do an article a week. And I knew I would, I don't negotiate with the decisions I make, no matter how uncomfortable, and so I'm excited to have gotten to this point in the streak.
So for today's 100th #SaturdayServing, I'm sharing 3 Power Lessons that I've learnt from writing 100 Linkedin Articles... and announce the imminent end to this little endeavour as we know it!
Power Lesson 1: Set your Mind!
When I started on 4th January 2020, I said I would test Articles for a year... and I did. It was January, so I started the endeavour focused on New Years Resolutions - and why it's OK to hate them (check it out here ). The most important lesson that I took from this entire endeavour was the need to SET your mind.
Many call this 'mindset' - but actually many of the tools we need to sort our mindsets out (I'm coming to discover) is because we will not completely set our mind... and so we negotiate with our feelings and emotions and other things.
I made a decision, and stuck to it... it seems remarkable, now - and in some ways it is... but actually for me I learnt that I needed to decide what I meant by my decision.
Would I only do it when it was convenient? or when I had something scintillating and intellectual to write (The answer being 'no'... I literally wrote the article 'What to say when you don't know what to say, and saying nothing isn't an option ') Everything became fodder for articles because articles were going out each week...
Did I always feel like it? No?
Was the situation always ideal? - Hell no! and I refer to the article entitled 'That which doesn't kill us ' during a time of particular hardship.
The power lesson here is to know that everything you want to achieve is found in your mindset... How will you set your mind? How serious are you about what you said you're going to do? What is your word worth? - and I know all of this sounds harsh... YES, we are humans, yes consistency is not the same as perfection and I am in no way perfect in this (It's called #SaturdayServing, and mainly comes out on Sunday's) and yet... you will be amazed what you can achieve when you reckon with the decisions you make and what you are willing to do to achieve those things.
Lockdowns, homeschooling, tears, tiredness, blues, feels, pressure, disappointments, mistakes, insults nor unexpected bouts of single parentdom due to a stranded spouse - none of these things stood in the way, because I told myself the story that it wouldn't.
When things get tough... or you are struggling - you change your behaviour, not the goal. Setting your mind is the most powerful thing you can do to achieve anything... so ALWAYS give yourself the chance to do so about the things you care about!
Power Lesson 2: Honour the Process
As with anything that looks amazing at the end, there's a whole lot that goes into the process - and this has been no different.
I've used Linkedin articles for a number of different things, and have been very grateful to reap the incredible benefits available.
And I made sure I mixed it up and went in for

I took the chance to use the space and really leaned in...
But I honoured the process...
I never treated a single individual article like it was going to make or break me, and simply relished the opportunity to add to my body of work (just like I'm doing today)
The process for anything is LOOOOOOOOONG while the destination is a WHOLE lot shorter! - So I learned to love the process as that was where I would spend most of my time in this journey and would help to see me through.
Power Lesson 3: Listen and Learn
So I've been writing articles consistently for almost 2 years... but it's so important to listen, learn and adapt to the times.
I've noted a significant decrease in the distribution of my articles (which is no bad thing) as I signpost people to them... and yet at the same time, I'm now thinking I can get a better return on my efforts elsewhere...
With the roll-out of Newsletters across the platform (and yes Linkedin, I requested for over a year and was granted functionality 3 WEEKS ago) - there are more articles on the platform (although I must say MORE articles isn't actually giving better quality of content, through leadership or writing... but I digress).
When I started, there were very few articles on the platform, but now we are in a flood of new article offerings through the newsletter rollout, so alas - I feel like it's time to change what I'm doing to maximise my time and efforts...
So alas - I'm announcing that the #SaturdayServing Train will be coming to the end of its journey in its current form at the end of this year. I don't know what the next thing will look like, and I'm totally open to suggestions - but weekly articles will stop at the end of the year and something else will take its place...but I will continue to serve my network, and celebrate and support the incredible contributions of women in business across the world... but I will do it in a way that maximizes my return on my temporal and intellectual capital...
I'll first of all focus on serving the women who will be joining me on the upcoming Boostcamp... and then I'll decide after that. (Come along ladies it's gonna be fire!!)
But never be afraid to learn, grow, change, test things... lean in, and then decide that it's time to change.... that's what business, and indeed life is all about!
