??3 podcasting time wasters that I avoid.??
Adam Schaeuble
I help service providers learn how to leverage a podcast to build their online business platform and get more ideal fit clients.
Hey?Pod Pals!
This?newsletter was lovingly curated (without the use of any AI) in real time on Thursday?morning at 9:30am CST.?
We've got ALL of the snow here in the St. Louis area and my kids got a "bonus" winter vacation week....I'm having 2020 flashbacks.....LOL!?
I'm sure they will eventually go back to school...but today I've got to knock out the newsletter and then go help my kids with 4th/8th grade homework!
?
???This week we are going to talk about podcasting time wasters.
I don't know about you Pod Pals but I CRAVE efficiency. My time is my most valuable resource and I am always looking at things to extract from my daily work flow.?
I often pause to think: "Is this thing that I'm doing actually working....or am I just doing work?"
Over the past year I've sort of entered a new season of life as I crossed the threshold of 20 years as an entrepreneur and I've made some big changes.......changes that I'm doubling down on in 2025.
So with this week's newsletter I want to do a deeper dive into three time wasters that podcasters should consider spending less time on or getting rid of completely.
? Time Waster #1: All of the time spent editing video & audio.
?? First things first, we all know it takes a LOT more time to edit video (for Youtube etc) than it does to edit audio...for most content creators. So one huge time saver would be to ditch the video content....like I did in late 2024.
I've got some good friends that have large Youtube followings (100k+) and it takes them up to six hours to edit a weekly 20 minute video......I say NO THANKS to that Pod Pals!?
So if you take an honest look at your Youtube and your video content for social media and you feel like it just isn't worth the effort it might be time to at least back way down on the video content you are creating.
?? Now, let's talk audio editing. I know that many of you need an application for Over-Editors Anonymous....just sayin'.?
If your audio podcast is a Netflix style drama, storytelling, or meditation style show then, yes you do need great audio. The extra effort makes sense.
BUT...as a service provider that is trying to leverage their show to get more clients the most important part of your show is that you deliver education and/or inspiration with each episode.?
If you say "UM" four times it isn't that big of a deal.?
So if you are over-editing your audio podcast I suggest you start using my 1:1 Ratio Rule: If your audio is 20 minutes long then you only get to edit it for 20 minutes (or less).?
? Time Waster #2: You are putting too much effort into being active on too many social media platforms.?
This is a really tough pill to swallow for any content creator because the FOMO is huge when it comes to being in "all the places" on social media.?
I talk about my success on Threads pretty frequently and I know that some...or a LOT.....of you are thinking "Oh sweet baby Jesus he wants me to try ANOTHER social platform!".
I think the time waster here is that we see the ultra successful people in our niche talk about their success on a platform and we feel like we have to try and follow their lead.
"Well, if Amy Porterfield is killing it with dancing videos on Tiktok I had better put on my dancin' shoes!"
????Here is what I want you to do instead in 2025: I want you to view your social media strategy like a season of the TV show Survivor.
???I want you to start voting social media platforms OFF of the freakin island! ??
You can start this month and do the same old thing you've been doing. Trying to be in all of the places on social. Then at the end of the month....it's time to vote a platform off of the island and stop posting.
By mid year you should have things paired down to one or two FOCUS platforms to put full effort into.?
For me that single platform is Threads. Your focus platform might be LinkedIn or Youtube shorts or MySpace or something new that comes along this year.
I truly believe if you are seeing an ROI on a social media platform, and focus at least 80% of your effort on that platform, you will really start to enjoy it more and your account will start growing like crazy!
? Time Waster #3: Long form interview podcast episodes.
I know Pod Pals....this one cuts deep for some of you.
When I'm chatting with podcasters that are struggling to do weekly content the first question I ask them is "Are you just doing interview episodes?"
99% of the time the answer is YES.
?? This is when I teach them about my 2/3 Content Rule of Expert Positioning which states that service providers must utilize 2/3 of their podcast content to feature themselves as the expert with solo episodes and coaching episodes.
??*Note: this still leaves 1/3 of your content for strategic interview episodes.*
The average solo episode is going to be 10-20 minutes long. The average interview episode is 45-60 minutes long.
Interviews episodes:
-Take more time to prep for.
-Take more time to create.
-Take more time to edit.
I can take one hour per week and record (and edit) two to three solo episodes in the same time it takes the average podcaster to record one interview episode.
My solo episode batch recording sessions allow me to:
-Get WAY ahead on my content so I can take a long break whenever I want.
-Still release WEEKLY episodes. (I haven't missed a week of releasing a podcast episode since 2015!)
?? So Pod Pals here's the deal: You don't have to take any action at all based off of what I've typed out here.?
My goal is to just get you thinking about being more efficient and effective with your time this year. I want 2025 to be the year where podcasters defeat?BURNOUT and they decide to keep podcasting!
Speaking of burnout...I think I've created one of my best episodes ever on that topic this week....check it out!

?? 2024 Podcasting WINS episode (part two):
Last Friday I released the second episode with all of the WINS that my podcast listeners submitted along with a question for me to answer.
We had some awesome WINS and questions!
?
?
?? Podcast listener question of the week:
This week our question is from?Dr Steve from the Simple Healthy Choices for Weight Loss podcast.
Here is?Dr Steve's?question: "I've been asked to speak at a virtual summit in my niche and I want to use the show to promote it. How should I go about doing that?"
Great question Dr Steve! When it comes to doing promo on our show we've got three zones to look at:
? 1. Intro
? 2. Outro
? 3. During the episode (midroll, etc).?
I would definitely record a canned intro/outro to promote the summit but your strongest CTA will probably come from an "in the moment" midroll-ish call to action during the episode.
We want this to be a natural CTA and not something that you read from a script.?
I would promote the summit with this strategy for 2-4 weeks leading up to the event! Good luck!
If you would like to submit a question for me to answer in this newsletter and maybe even on my podcast here is how to do it:
1. Use my Speakpipe link to record 90 seconds or less of audio.
2. Use this template: "Hi this is (YOUR NAME) from (YOUR PODCAST NAME). My question for Adam is (ASK YOUR QUESTION)."

???Podcast?Launch Tip?of the week:
Many new podcasters think that you need to have a boat load of cash to launch a podcast....no so fast my friend!?
I've earned over one million dollars with my podcast by recording over 1,000 episodes on a $97 microphone.?
