3 Platforms I’m Betting Big On In 2022 To Grow My Following

Since 2016, I've written some 1,000 articles on Medium.com .

That was my first real platform before I started posting here on LinkedIn a few years ago.

2021 was a bad year for Medium, though.

As I’ve written about before on MANY occasions,?Medium is still a worthwhile platform to publish on .

It’s just that, for whatever reason, reach has seriously dwindled.

The health of my entire online business is predicated on the amount of views I generate. If Medium isn’t generating as many views for me as it once did, I need to try something else (so I can keep paying the bills).

Luckily I have a plan.

There’s three platforms I’m targeting heavily this year. Here they are..

1. Twitter

Weird, right?

Last February I wrote that?Twitter was a waste of time .

After talking to my friend?Alex Mathers , though,?I’m sold that Twitter is now a powerhouse platform. Alex used to be one of the most popular writers on Medium. He wrote for The Mission and all the other popular Medium publications back in 2017 and 2018.

Then he started to lose his reach there a little bit.

Luckily I’ve kept in touch with him, and he said he has?80,000 followers on Twitter ?right now.

What’s the secret for him?

Well, threads are MASSIVE on Twitter at the moment.

I’ve seen some people get literally millions of impressions with viral threads, and you know what?

I’m going to trust the guy that grew a massive following on BOTH Medium and Twitter when he tells me that Twitter is going through its heyday right now.

I’ll be buying a few courses about Twitter ASAP.

2. LinkedIn

In fairness, I’ve BEEN betting big on LinkedIn.

I've recently put on a few?LinkedIn Sprints where I take 80+ creators through a rigorous 30-day posting program.

On my first sprint I went from 14,800 followers to 15,500 followers in 30 days. That’s pretty dang good.?I also got over 147,000 views .

Beat that, Medium!

Here’s what some of our sprinters had to say..

LinkedIn’s organic reach, unlike Medium’s, has been pretty steady over the last four years.

Steady awesome.

And guess what? You really don’t need to post professional stuff to grow a following there. You can post personal development advice, life lessons, and pretty much everything that you already write on Medium.

If you want to join our March cohort,?you can sign up here .

3. Medium

I still like Medium. I wrote that 2022 will likely be my last year on the platform, though.

My time as a creator this year will be split up between three platforms: Twitter, LinkedIn, and Medium. That's it.

I can't physically take on another platform, and to be honest, creators don't really need more than two platforms anyway.

Focus is my word for 2022, and I'm staying focused on ONLY a few things..

Conclusion

So, what platforms am I betting big on?

  1. Twitter
  2. LinkedIn
  3. Medium

Did I miss any?

LinkedIn is such a phenomenal platform, though for writers Medium is phenomenal as well!

Staying focused on 3 platforms makes sense. I'm wondering why, if you're only planning to stay on Medium for 2022, why it still makes your top three?

Thanks to your sprint I am learning to love #linkedin. I don't love twitter but I see a lot of writer lifts on there so I might give it a whirl. It may be a waste of time, but I am still trying to develop my own blog, and periodically post an article on Medium. I don't want to lose all my followers if Medium goes under. I use Facebook socially but have had some success with groups. Lately there are just too many though. The good news is a writer's gotta write, so they all give me good practice.
