I remember having friends in college whose sole purpose in life was to become social media famous or to become an “influencer”. While the motives probably weren’t very pure, I can see why they wanted to become one. Being a social media influencer leads to multiple opportunities. There was serious money that could be made from paid partnerships, promotions, etc. Heck, people will send you free stuff when you're an influencer so you can help THEM grow their following.
