You’ve hit the gym, ditched the booze & signed up for that course you’ve wanted to do for ages! These are all great personal New Year's resolutions, but what are you committing to as a leader in 2024? Here are some ideas we’ve had here at People Hub.
- Could you role model the behaviour you want to see? All too often, we work with leaders who want to see cultural or behavioural shifts, yet they haven’t made the shift themselves. When demonstrating positive behaviours, values & work ethic it inspires others to emulate those traits. Start by self-evaluating & ask yourself, “Am I living & breathing the change I want to see in my organisation?” if the answer is no, challenge yourself to make small steps towards changing.
- Could you extend trust first? We know that trust is the bedrock for success in organisations. Extending trust first with individuals in your organisation will help build a foundation of openness & collaboration. Teams whose Leaders have a high level of trust in them often feel more motivated, creative & willing to take ownership of more. A high level of trust will also enable stronger relationships, which is critical to overcoming challenges when they arise.
- Listen with the intent to understand. When working under pressure, there is often a tendency to slip into a more directive approach to communicating with our teams. This can sometimes look like jumping in to tell someone the best solution or appropriate action. However, let's focus on staying curious and listening with the intent to understand rather than respond. In that case, we will allow the person more time to think for themselves & discover their own solution! Which you never know may even be better than what you would have suggested
